The Asian Mind Games (also known as the Asian Mind Games) was held for the first time in Singapore and took place from November 13 to 15. There were 5 competitions taking place at this congress, including chess, Chinese chess, Go, bridge and Rubik's cube.
As of the morning of November 14, Lai Ly Huynh still maintained his undefeated record after the first 6 rounds in the rapid chess event. He had 10 points, with 4 wins and 2 draws, thereby equaling the scores of many experts from China.
In the afternoon, Lai Ly Huynh faced Doan Thang in round 7, a rematch of the world championship final 2 months ago. The match ended in a draw, bringing 1 point for each side.
The round 8 match between Lai Ly Huynh and Meng Phồn Duệ became an "early final". Meng Phồn Duệ is only 17 years old this year, famous as a "child prodigy" of Chinese chess.
At the World Championship, Lai Li Huynh and Meng Fan Rui had tied, so both were very determined in this rematch. And then the 17-year-old Chinese player excellently won.
After this loss, Lai Ly Huynh won round 9 to get 2 more points. However, this result was not enough for him to win a medal at the Asian Mind Sports Games.
The Vietnamese player ranked 4th overall with 13 points, behind Manh Phồn Due (gold medal, 15 points), Vuong Vu Bac (silver medal, 14 points) and Doan Thang (bronze medal, 14 points but with lower goal difference).
All three top players in the rapid chess category are Chinese, showing that mainland chess has quickly restored its dominance after losing the world title to Lai Ly Huynh two months ago.
Lai Ly Huynh and his teammates still have a chance to shine when they enter the blitz chess competition tomorrow, November 15.
