According to GFZ, the earthquake had an epicenter at a depth of 10 km, initially determined to have coordinates of 6.34 degrees North latitude and 126.53 degrees East longitude.
There is currently no information on damage caused by the earthquake.
Previously, on December 2, the European Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC) said that a magnitude 7.5 earthquake occurred in the Mindanao island area of the Philippines.
The earthquake had an epicenter at a depth of 63km. The US Tsunami Warning System issued a tsunami warning following the earthquake.
The Philippines lies along the Pacific "Ring of Fire" that stretches from Japan to Southeast Asia and across the Pacific Basin. As a result, the area is prone to frequent geological and volcanic activity.
In mid-November, also on the island of Mindanao, a magnitude 6.7 earthquake occurred, killing at least nine people, causing buildings to shake violently and part of the roof of a shopping mall to collapse.
