Born into a farming family, Thiêm faced hardship, which fueled his ambition to improve his life. After growing up, he left his hometown to work as a laborer in various places, hoping for a better future. However, after nearly 10 years of wandering, his life remained difficult, his income unstable, and he had no savings.
"There were times I thought that if I kept working for others, I would never get ahead. So I decided to return to my hometown to develop the economy and have a chance to change my life," Thiêm shared.
In 2009, Mr. Thiem returned to his hometown and chose Len 1 Valley to start his career. Conditions in Len 1 Valley at that time were very difficult due to the lack of electricity, running water, and inconvenient roads, but he was determined to conquer this new land. Starting from nothing, Mr. Thiem began clearing the undergrowth, removing weeds, and improving every meter of land with manual labor.
“Back then, my wife stayed home to take care of the three children. I was the only one working at Len 1. Sometimes I felt sad and discouraged, but thinking about my children who were at a crucial age for growth and development, I had to keep trying,” Thiêm confided.

After years of perseverance, Mr. Thiem has expanded his agricultural land to 8 hectares, gradually forming a comprehensive farm. On that land, he planted 1 hectare of seedless American oranges. Despite only harvesting the first crop, the orange orchard has already generated revenue of approximately 70 million VND. Alongside farming, he also invested in building a 200m² pig farm. Each year, he sells two batches, each batch consisting of about 150 pigs, creating a stable income for his family.
Not stopping there, Mr. Thiem also utilized an area of over 1,000m² to dig ponds for raising fish and chickens; the remaining area was used to plant hybrid acacia trees. Thanks to his systematic, scientific approach and perseverance, Mr. Thiem's integrated farm model is becoming increasingly effective. Each year, after deducting expenses, he earns a profit of about 400 million VND. In years when the acacia trees are harvested, his family earns over 600 million VND.
From a struggling family, Mr. Thiem has now risen to become well-off, building a spacious house and stabilizing his life. Mr. Thiem shared: "The biggest difficulty is not the lack of capital, but the lack of determination. Once you decide to do something, you must persevere to the end to achieve success."
Ms. Cao Thi Hieu, Vice Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee and Chairwoman of the Farmers' Association of Tan Thanh Commune, said: “Mr. Thiem is one of the exemplary farmers in the locality. From barren land, he has successfully built an effective integrated farm model, bringing in high income. Mr. Thiem's model not only helps develop his family's economy but also contributes to the efficient exploitation of land resources, creating momentum for the economic development movement in the locality, so many members are learning from and following his example.”
The story of Dinh Huu Thiem's journey from hardship to wealth is a testament to the indomitable spirit and daring initiative of farmers. "In the future, I plan to expand the area for orange cultivation, improve livestock farming techniques, and expand the wild boar breeding facilities to move towards safe and sustainable production," Dinh Huu Thiem further shared.
