For the first time, Ho Chi Minh City organized a traditional music singing and folk instrument performance contest for students.

On the afternoon of November 11, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City announced the first Viet Dieu Trang Thanh contest, for students aged 12-18 in the city.

According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, the Viet dieu trang thanh contest is different from the usual school music contests, combining performance competition - intensive training - artistic exchange. Each contestant not only performs but also learns, experiences, practices expressive skills and understands more deeply the value of traditional music.

The contest consists of three rounds: the preliminary round takes place from November 11 to 30, 2025, contestants will send their videos for the organizers to select the 30-50 best performances to move on to round 2.

In round 2, students will be guided by a team of artists, folk music teachers and art advisors. The final round is scheduled to take place at 7:00 p.m. on January 22, 2026 at Ben Thanh Theater.

Specifically, the Viet dieu trang thanh contest is for students aged 12-18 in Ho Chi Minh City. Students will compete individually or in groups in the following categories: folk songs, traditional music and reformed opera, and traditional musical instrument performance.

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training said the Viet Dieu Trang Thanh contest aims to spread national pride and encourage the younger generation to stick with traditional music, organized by the department in collaboration with the art education unit Sofia Art.

The Department hopes that the contest will contribute to creating a modern and attractive playground for students to demonstrate their talent, creativity and pride in traditional music.

In particular, Viet dieu trang thanh was deployed within the framework of the series of activities of the 50th anniversary of education and training in Ho Chi Minh City. This is an important milestone, marking the half-century journey of the city's education in cultivating knowledge, personality, culture and art for generations of students.
