"Passing on the fire" in the women's movement
With her enthusiasm, creativity and sense of responsibility, Ms. Nguyen Thi Ha, Head of the Women's Association of Ward 2 (Dong Trieu Ward) has become a reliable support for members and an active nucleus in all local movements. Over the years, the women's movement initiated by Ms. Ha has contributed to building an increasingly civilized, bright - green - clean - beautiful neighborhood with effective and practical models.

As a member of the Neighborhood Front Committee, member of the Standing Committee of the Women's Union of Dong Trieu Ward, and Head of the Women's Union of Neighborhood 2, Ms. Nguyen Thi Ha always clearly identifies the responsibility of a union official as upholding the pioneering spirit, daring to think, daring to do, and daring to take responsibility before the Party Committee and the people. In any task, she always does it with enthusiasm, creativity, and a spirit of constant effort.
The Women's Association of Ward 2, under the leadership of Ms. Ha, has achieved many outstanding results in implementing the movement "Building a family of 5 no's and 3 clean's". The Association regularly innovates propaganda content, mobilizing members to persistently implement the criteria for building a civilized, prosperous, equal, progressive, and happy family.
In the criteria of "no poverty", the association has connected 59 members to borrow capital for economic development in 2025. As of October 2025, the Women's Association of Ward 2 received a trust from the Social Policy Bank and the Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development with a total outstanding loan of 5.2 billion VND for 60 members to borrow to create jobs, contributing to stabilizing their lives.
Regarding the criteria of “no law violations, no domestic violence”, the Women’s Association of Ward 2 took charge of and educated two teenagers at risk of breaking the law. Thanks to the closeness and sharing, both cases have improved and have gone to vocational training. 100% of the members’ families have no violence, no cases of law violations.

For the criterion of “no malnourished children, no school dropouts”, the association cooperated with the health station and population collaborators to organize nutrition guidance and child care. The whole neighborhood has had no malnourished children for many years.
One of the highlights of the Women's Union of Ward 2 is the creativity in the "3 clean" movement. Ms. Ha and the union have effectively maintained "Green Sunday", built a "flower route", implemented the model of "women's group collecting waste", "raising saving pigs", and especially the model of "Classifying waste at source - Turning waste into money". Every week, 15-30 members participate in environmental sanitation, collecting an average of 1.2m³ of waste/time, taking care of 250m of flower and green tree roads. In 2025 alone, the union collected over 5 million VND in recyclable waste and put it into the "saving pig" fund, used to support children and members in difficult circumstances during holidays and Tet.
With the contributions of many effective movements and models, the Women's Union of Ward 2 has been awarded certificates of merit by the Women's Union at all levels for many consecutive years. Ms. Nguyen Thi Ha herself was recognized by the Women's Union of the ward and Dong Trieu City (old) as an individual with outstanding achievements in the Union's activities and women's movements.
Chairwoman of the Women's Union of Dong Trieu Ward Nguyen Thi Bich Hanh said: The dedication, creativity and enthusiasm of Ms. Nguyen Thi Ha not only creates a strong influence in the community but also contributes significantly to building a civilized and modern neighborhood, contributing significantly to the women's movement in the whole ward.
The woman who overcame fate
Overcoming adversity with extraordinary determination, Ms. Nguyen Thi Sam in Dam Ha commune has become a shining example of the will to rise up. Having suffered the shock of losing her right leg in an accident, but with the spirit of "disabled but not useless", Ms. Sam has strongly stood up to successfully build a model of acacia nursery and create more jobs for many disadvantaged women in the locality.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Sam is from Nghe An. In 2000, she moved with her husband and 3 children to Tan Binh commune, Dam Ha district (now Dam Ha commune) to live. Ms. Sam shared: "In the early days when I followed my husband back to the countryside to start a business, life was difficult without a proper roof, having to live temporarily in a small shack built by my husband. Every day, I got up at 3-4am to cycle nearly 200km to sell goods on the street to earn extra income to support the family."
Life was not yet over, when tragedy struck in 2007 when Ms. Sam had a traffic accident on her way to sell goods and lost a leg. At that time, everything seemed to collapse for her, because even the smallest thing like walking normally, she needed the help of her husband and children.
Ms. Sam confided: “I had an accident on the way to pick up goods. Because the injury was so severe, my leg was necrotic and I had to be transferred to a higher-level hospital. I was hospitalized for 6 months. When I was discharged, my family had almost no valuable assets left. Life was already difficult, but now it became even more difficult when I was no longer able to work. The family's finances depended solely on my husband. At that time, my youngest son was just over 1 year old…”.
Every day when her husband goes to work for hire, going to the forest to collect firewood to sell, Ms. Sam also tries to use a cane to take her 3 children up the hill to pick fresh tea leaves to sell, earning 40,000-70,000 VND per day. She also sells small groceries in front of her house to earn money for expenses and to save up to pay off debts. Her biggest concern is how to raise all 3 children to study properly, not having to drop out of school.
At that time, some households in the commune were growing acacia seedlings and selling them for good income. Ms. Sam also thought of a way to do it, but her family lacked capital and acacia growing techniques, so she proposed to the Women's Union of Tan Binh commune (old) to ask for support. Accordingly, she was supported with 10 million VND, and the Women's Union of the commune stood as a guarantee with the Social Policy Bank of Dam Ha district (old) to borrow 50 million VND.

From the support capital, Ms. Sam invested in growing 35,000 acacia seedlings and had enough income to cover expenses and raise her children. Seeing the effectiveness of this model, her family continued to expand the area to develop acacia nursery. After many efforts, the results came, the acacia nursery was increasingly expanded, Ms. Sam's family created prestige with customers. Not stopping there, Ms. Sam continued to research and learn how to grow more cinnamon, eucalyptus, and tea seedlings to supply to forest planting households in the area. In addition, her family also planted 9 hectares of acacia and raised pigs, chickens, ducks, and sold fertilizer, creating a stable source of income. In 2017, Ms. Sam's family built a spacious house worth about 1 billion VND.
For Ms. Sam, determination is not only to overcome difficulties, but also to live well and spread love. Ms. Sam always actively supports women members in difficult circumstances, creating regular jobs for 5-10 workers with an income of about 6 million VND/person/month. Each year, the nursery model brings Ms. Sam's family an income of about 200-250 million VND.
Bright spot in the movement of women doing good business
In recent times, the Women's Union of Van Don Special Zone has actively supported its members in building effective economic models, contributing to increasing income and stabilizing life. A typical example is Ms. Ha Thi Huong (Women's Union of Dien Xa village) who has boldly innovated, taking advantage of available conditions to develop a pig farming model, becoming a bright spot in the movement of women doing good business in the locality.
To implement the plan to build a model for household economic development, the Standing Committee of the Women's Union of Van Don Special Zone assigned Union officials to go directly to Dien Xa village to guide and select a number of core members, including Ms. Huong's family. With the support of the Union, Ms. Huong was able to participate in technical training courses, access knowledge of biosafety farming and apply new technology to production.
Since 2023, Ms. Huong has boldly borrowed capital to expand the barn to 80m² with 5 stalls, reasonably arranging the sows and pigs in each stage. At the same time, she invested in building 2 biogas tanks, using livestock waste as fuel, both saving costs and ensuring environmental hygiene. In addition, effectively utilizing 8 sao of available rice fields to grow rice, vegetables and raise fish, her family has an additional source of natural food and animal feed.

The highlight of Ms. Huong's family is that they are self-sufficient in piglets by maintaining two healthy sows to provide piglets for commercial farming. She also cleans the barn daily with probiotics, vaccinates regularly, and monitors weight regularly to adjust the appropriate diet for the pigs. Thanks to that, the pigs grow healthily and have few diseases.
Thanks to the initiative from breeding stock to barns, Ms. Huong's family's pig farming model operates stably and brings in high income. In the first 9 months of 2025 alone, her family sold 70 pigs, an average of 100kg/pig with a selling price of 70,000 VND/kg, earning a profit of over 300 million VND. Currently, Ms. Huong's farm continues to maintain 2 herds of pigs, expected to be sold in December 2025.
Not only is she good at business, Ms. Huong is also always willing to share her experiences, support breeding stock and provide technical guidance to members in the village. Up to now, she has helped two member families, including Ms. Hoang Thi Nguyen and Ms. Luu Thi Huong, access effective livestock farming models and initially bring in stable income.
The Dien Xa Village Women's Union also regularly organizes visits for members to visit Ms. Huong's model, considering it a practical learning address. Thanks to that, the movement of women helping each other develop the economy is increasingly spreading, creating a spirit of solidarity and encouraging women to boldly do business.
Ms. Huong shared: “Thanks to the encouragement of the Women's Union staff, I boldly did it and the more I did it, the more confident I became. Now that the model has developed and I have a stable income, I just hope to share it so that other women in the village can do the same. In the near future, my family will expand the barn, install a cooling system to raise better animals in the summer and move towards more systematic biosafety farming. I am also researching to build a clean pork brand. If I can do it, it will both increase the value of the product and create more income for the family.”
