In recent years, the situation of fire and explosion in the country in general and in the province in particular has become increasingly complicated. The main cause is the subjectivity and negligence in fire prevention work of each family.

The movement "My house has a fire extinguisher" was launched to raise awareness of fire prevention and handling, contributing to building a safe and civilized community.

The movement “My house has a fire extinguisher” implemented by the local police force in coordination with the local government has a profound humanitarian meaning. This is not just a matter of equipping a simple fire-fighting device, but also a commitment and initiative of each family in protecting their lives, property and the community.

Each fire extinguisher is placed in the house as a “silent shield”, ready to be used in an emergency. Each member who knows how to use a fire extinguisher is a “soldier” in preventing and fighting fires on the spot, contributing to minimizing the risk of fire spreading, especially in the “golden” stage when the fire first breaks out.

Responding to this movement, recently, Phuc Son residential area, Yen Bai ward organized the launch of the model "My house has a fire extinguisher". The launch ceremony was attended not only by members of more than 10 households participating in the model but also by many residents in the residential area. People came to listen, understand and gain more experience in fire prevention and fighting.

At the ceremony, police officers directly disseminated the Law on Fire Prevention and Fighting and skills to handle situations when fires and explosions occur. The contents were presented vividly, easily understood and practical, such as how to detect fires early, how to quickly call the fire department, how to use fire extinguishers properly, how to escape in conditions of dense smoke, etc., helping people visualize more clearly the risks and serious consequences of fires and explosions, thereby raising awareness and changing behavior in daily life.

Mr. Ho Minh Manh, Head of Phuc Son Residential Group - the pioneer in mobilizing people to participate in the model, shared: “I and the members of the residential group are committed to maintaining this model well. We not only equip fire extinguishers for each household, but also actively encourage neighbors to raise their vigilance, regularly check electrical systems, gas, equipment with fire and explosion risks and be ready to respond if an incident occurs. This is for the safety of everyone.”

The model's influence is also reflected in the sharing of people from other communes and wards. Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong in Tran Yen commune said: "Fires are really dangerous, many fires burn down all the assets accumulated over many years in just a few minutes. I once witnessed a fire in a motel near Yen Thinh market, at that time everyone panicked because there was no equipment to handle the initial situation. Since learning about the movement "My house has a fire extinguisher", I immediately bought two fire extinguishers to put in the house and instructed my whole family on how to use them."

Not just a model, “My house has a fire extinguisher” has gradually become a social movement, arousing the spirit of solidarity, mutual support and love in the community. When people equip themselves with fire fighting equipment and necessary skills, they can also help their neighbors in emergency situations. Each household becomes a “fire prevention fortress”, connecting into a local fire prevention network will be much more effective than relying only on professional forces. The movement also helps to significantly reduce the workload of the fire prevention and fighting police force in small fires, while saving social resources.

According to experts, the “first 5 minutes” of a fire are the golden period - if handled properly and promptly, the risk of spreading and damage will be minimized. In particular, implementing the movement associated with propaganda of the law on fire prevention and fighting helps people better understand their rights and responsibilities. The Law on Fire Prevention and Fighting not only stipulates the responsibilities of the authorities but also clearly defines the role of each citizen in preventing, detecting and handling fires and explosions. When each citizen voluntarily complies with the law, society will become safer and more sustainable.

Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Kim Oanh, Head of the Fire Prevention, Fire Fighting and Rescue Police Department of Lao Cai Provincial Police, said: “Hundreds of models of “My house has a fire extinguisher” have been built and operated effectively by the grassroots police forces of the two provinces of Yen Bai and Lao Cai in consultation with the Party Committee and authorities. Not only that, the model also creates a great influence in the movement of “Good fire prevention, good fire fighting”, helping people equip themselves with skills and raise awareness of fire prevention and fighting, thereby reducing the number of cases, reducing damage to people and property caused by fires and explosions, contributing to protecting the peace of life”.
