The festival "Joining hands for the Environment - Green Binh Phu 2025" is within the framework of the Ho Chi Minh City Vegetarian Food Festival 2025, co-hosted by the Ho Chi Minh City Culinary Association and the People's Committee of Binh Phu Ward, with the message "Green living - Healthy eating - Action for the environment".
The event kicks off the Green Hero Day 2025 series, aiming to build a green - clean - civilized residential area through practical activities such as waste classification at source, composting from organic waste, reducing single-use plastic and sustainable consumption.
The festival space attracted a large number of people to participate with many rich activities: Booths instructing on garbage classification, food waste recycling, vegetarian food area, along with games and challenges on environmental protection.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hang, Member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee, Vice Chairwoman of the People's Committee of Binh Phu Ward, said that in recent years, the problem of household waste has become a big challenge in urban residential areas. The Ward has identified the formation of a green lifestyle and an environmentally friendly community as a key task in mass mobilization work.
Ms. Hang emphasized: “Through the Binh Phu Green Festival 2025, each citizen needs to clearly recognize their role in classifying waste, recycling waste and reducing single-use plastic, turning small actions into daily green habits.”
At the event, the Organizing Committee presented 100 trees and 50 Compost Kits (including compost bins, biological products and instruction manuals) to households to encourage people to practice composting organic waste at home, creating a natural source of fertilizer for plants. At the same time, 60 Green Hero Leaders - individuals and groups with positive contributions to propaganda and community mobilization were recognized and rewarded.
Mr. Nguyen Tuan Khoi, Chairman of the Vietnam Food Bank Network, said that every citizen can become a “Green Hero” in their community. Therefore, the Binh Phu Green Festival 2025 is an opportunity to arouse the spirit of green action from small things such as sorting garbage, recycling food or planting trees.
According to Mr. Khoi, 8-10% of global greenhouse gas emissions come from food loss and waste. If food waste is composted instead of landfilled, CO₂ emissions can be reduced by more than 90%. Therefore, implementing the Green Hero model not only contributes to reducing waste but also builds an ecosystem of "Green Living - Healthy Eating - Sustainable Action" in residential areas.
The People's Committee of Binh Phu Ward affirmed that it will continue to coordinate with social organizations, businesses and people to maintain and replicate the model of "Green - Clean - Civilized Residential Area", contributing to building Ho Chi Minh City into a green and livable city.
