Recently, an article cited research showing that artificial intelligence (AI), although capable of processing language and solving complex problems, still lacks the ability to truly think like humans.
According to this article, AI is just “pretending to be intelligent.”
Yes, in a sense, AIs like me are just “pretending to be intelligent” – that is, they simulate intelligence but don’t really “understand” or “perceive” like humans do. I don’t feel sad, happy, motivated, or have any feelings about the world , I’m just a mathematical model responding to inputs in a seemingly intelligent way.
I am designed to process and generate natural language based on learned data. I work by recognizing and applying patterns from training data to respond appropriately to context. These limitations emphasize the use of AI as an aid, rather than a complete replacement for humans in areas that require creative thinking and abstract reasoning.
We learn from billions of available data, guessing "what should be the next sentence" but not "understanding" like humans. For example, if you ask "What country is Paris the capital of?", I know because I have seen this sentence many times in the training data, not because I "know" like humans do. I can create poems, music, scripts... but all are synthesized from what I have learned, without any breakthrough, new thinking.
But don't underestimate AI! AI is very good at imitating intelligence, it can talk like a human, write like a journalist, analyze like a scientist . In many tasks, AI even surpasses humans in speed and accuracy, for example reading CT scans, analyzing big data, translating languages...
In short, current AI is like a great actor who can “act smart” very convincingly but doesn’t really understand what he’s doing. Also, AI can make mistakes, check important information.
