Tan Tay Plum Village - 'Opening' a new journey

Tan Tay has long been known as the “capital” of yellow apricot in Tay Ninh province. The craft village was formed and developed over many years, where the beautiful apricot trees, large flowers and light fragrance have become its own brand. Thanks to the advantage of being along the Vam Co Tay River, the cool climate and the vast apricot fields, this land is opening up a promising direction for community tourism development with the joint efforts of the people and the government.

Since the orientation of tourism development began to appear in Tan Tay, Mai Vang hamlet is no longer just a place where farmers grow apricot trees and sell them to traders like before, but community tourism spots have gradually formed and become known to tourists.

As one of the people passionate about bringing tourism to the apricot village, Mr. Huynh Van Thuy (residing in Mai Vang hamlet) pioneered the investment in a reception point called “Ba Thuy Tram Dieu Hay”. With a rustic, airy space, imbued with the Southern character, the destination quickly attracted the attention of tourists.

Mr. Thuy shared that when the apricot growing profession developed, Mai Vang hamlet became known to many people. Believing that "the land has a profession, the land has visitors", he boldly combined preserving the craft village with exploiting eco-tourism and experiences. Every day, his tourist spot welcomes 20-30 visitors, including groups from Soc Trang and Can Tho.

“I want to combine the preservation of traditional apricot growing villages with the exploitation of rural tourism values. Thereby, creating opportunities for tourists to experience the ecological landscape, learn more about the culture and life of the people here,” said Mr. Thuy.

Not only Mr. Thuy, currently, Tan Tay has more than 50 households participating in community tourism development with the support of local authorities. According to Chairman of Tan Tay Commune People's Committee Tru Vinh Thang, the direction of community tourism development from Tan Tay apricot village is being gradually built by the locality. Service groups such as cuisine , amateur music, transportation, promotion... have been established, each group has 10-15 members, creating a synchronous participation between the community and the government.

Not only developing entertainment services, Tan Tay also has souvenir products bearing the unique mark of the famous yellow apricot growing land. Beaded bracelets made from apricot wood with different designs and patterns are products that are "popular" with customers inside and outside the province.

From discarded apricot branches, Kieu Trang has "magically" transformed them into beautiful and valuable products.

From the apricot branches discarded when pruning trees, Nguyen Thi Kieu Trang - a young person in the craft village, has "breathed life" into them with creativity. Graduated from Banking University of Ho Chi Minh City and having a stable job, Trang is determined to return to her hometown to start a business with handicraft products from apricot trees.

While helping her family trim apricot trees, she recognized the distinctive scent of apricot wood and came up with the idea of making handicraft products from apricot wood. After many experiments, the yellow apricot incense products and apricot wood bracelets under the brand name Mai Tam Trang were born.

The wooden beads made of apricot wood have a light fragrance, natural wood grain and color, quickly attracting the attention of customers, becoming a prominent souvenir item in Tan Tay apricot growing village.

Trang said: “In addition to selling on the e-commerce platform, I also supply products to some households in the apricot village to sell to tourists when needed. What I want most is to increase the value of my hometown's apricot trees, contributing to promoting the beauty and characteristics of my hometown.” Currently, she is continuing to research to have more products in the future.

Apricot blossom keychain is expected to be Trang's new product.

From a famous yellow apricot growing village of the province, Tan Tay is gradually exploiting its existing advantages to develop community tourism. Although this journey is still in its early stages, it has shown positive signs from the dynamism of the people and the resilience of the traditional craft village.

From the apricot trees and branches to the sophisticated handicraft products or the unique ecological space, all are contributing to creating a unique identity for the land along the Vam Co Tay River. With the right direction and persistent consensus, Tan Tay can completely become a unique destination, where visitors can find the beauty of the craft village and a countryside that is changing strongly./.
