In Thai Yen carpentry village (in Thanh Binh Thinh handicraft cluster, Duc Thinh commune), each product is made with the individual handprint of each craftsman. It is no longer just a story of a long-standing craft village, now the establishments have to compete with the creativity and precision of each detail. Near Tet, altars, wooden doors, wooden sofas or synchronized furniture sets are constantly ordered by customers to be renewed, with higher requirements and more modern designs.

At Hoa Lanh Furniture Store, the workers have no time to rest. One group is rushing to load the newly completed altar set onto the truck for delivery, while another group is moving the lim wood doors into the workshop to prepare for finishing spraying.

Mr. Nguyen Cong Hoa - the owner of the establishment said: "Although it is just the beginning of the season, the number of regular customers has increased significantly. Worship products and wooden sofas are the main products during this time and to maintain the relationship, the store still tries to stabilize the price, not increasing it compared to normal days."

The carpentry village is gradually moving towards personalization for customers.

The traditional carpentry village is quite crowded on weekends. They are looking for a wooden piece of furniture that fits their living space, many families want to order in their own style; some people like elaborate carvings, others want a minimalist design according to the design of their new house. Therefore, the establishments have to spend a lot of time consulting, measuring, and adjusting every detail.

Minh Khue Woodworking Factory is almost fully booked since the end of November this year, because it specializes in making custom-made products, the factory does not accept additional orders to ensure each product is of the best quality. Items such as wooden sofas, wooden doors, curtains and interior decorations are being ordered by many customers. Due to the use of imported wood and the need for careful processing, the price has increased compared to last year but still maintains a stable number of customers.

"At this time, the number of customers has started to increase, there are many orders for furniture and decorations, so the factory has to prioritize making according to pre-order schedules. We focus on producing according to orders from families and agencies to ensure the quality of each product. During this time, we do not make mass production like before, but make sure that each product is made properly, because there are many customers ordering custom designs," said Ms. Dinh Thi Minh - owner of Minh Khue wooden furniture.

Items such as wooden sofas, wooden doors, curtains and interior decorations are being ordered by many customers.

“My house was newly built in a classical style, so I am looking for a Qin Shi Huang sofa set and a pair of vases for the living room. The designs here are very diverse, each workshop has its own strengths, so I had to spend a whole day going to many places to choose the set I like,” said Mr. Ha Trong Manh (Huong Son commune).

At Quang Hoa facility, the atmosphere of the season is even more evident. More than a dozen workers are simultaneously completing the latest altar models, along with accessories such as candlesticks, fruit trays, vases, horizontal lacquered boards, and parallel sentences. These models are quite popular with customers every Tet holiday.

This altar model is quite popular with customers at the end of each year.

Mr. Nguyen Viet Quang - the owner of the establishment shared: "Near Tet, every family wants to take care of the altar to make it more solemn, so this is a hot-selling item. This year we have launched many new models, from traditional to modern, and at the same time have incentives for customers to buy the whole set to increase competitiveness."

These days, factory owners also take the opportunity to review orders to avoid omissions. Many orders for altars, cabinets, and wooden doors are finalized close to the deadline, forcing workers to work overtime. Because as long as the customer is satisfied, there will be new contracts.

However, not all establishments are in a good mood when entering the season. The recent storm caused the roofs of some factories in the cluster to be blown off, causing water to flood in, damaging raw wood and affecting machinery. Some establishments had to temporarily stop production for almost a week to clean up and repair the factory.

Many factories are urgently recovering, trying to complete unfinished orders in time for the Tet holiday.

These days, businesses are rushing to restore operations and complete unfinished orders in time for the Tet holiday. By proactively launching new models, keeping prices stable, and increasing incentives for early bookings, many carpentry businesses in Thai Yen are looking forward to a positive Tet holiday.

Thanh Binh Thinh Commune’s handicraft cluster currently has more than 1,000 households trading and manufacturing wooden products, large and small, with more establishments than last year. The products are diverse, from tables and chairs, beds and cabinets, altars, accessories, interior decoration… Many production establishments here are looking for new products, according to customer tastes to serve the bustling Tet market.

Not only chasing quantity, carpentry workshops increasingly focus on design and quality.

The recent storm has damaged the facilities of some carpentry workshops in the village, significantly affecting the progress of production and delivery. The commune government has coordinated with organizations to care and support. We hope that customers near and far will care and support the products of the carpentry village, helping the establishments stabilize production and contributing to preserving the long-standing traditional craft of the locality.
