Over the years, the localities of Tien Dien, Nghi Xuan, Co Dam, and Dan Hai have gathered nearly 400 unclaimed graves of unknown identity and reburied them in the cemetery at Thinh My village (Tien Dien commune).

Due to a lack of regular maintenance, the cemetery of unclaimed graves was at times neglected and overgrown with weeds. Concerned about this situation, after the implementation of the two-tiered local government model, and with the agreement of the Tien Dien Commune People's Committee, the Commune's Senior Citizens Association took on the responsibility of managing, caring for, and offering incense to the graves there.

During holidays, festivals, and full moon days, members of the Tien Dien Commune Senior Citizens Association visit the cemetery to clean and light incense at the graves. Each task is performed by the members with dedication and responsibility.
According to the members, the biggest difficulty is that the cemetery is quite large and weeds grow quickly. Meanwhile, the participants are all elderly and have limited health, making the cleaning quite strenuous. However, everyone tries to arrange their time to participate because they want the graves to always be clean and properly honored with incense.
Ms. Phan Thi Khai, a member of the Elderly Association of Tien Dien commune, shared: "Every time we come here to clean and light incense, we feel more at ease. For us, this act stems from the desire that those who have passed away, even without relatives to care for them, still receive proper offerings of incense."

Discussing this humane work, Ms. Nguyen Thi Xuan Hoa, President of the Elderly Association of Tien Dien Commune, said: “We always believe that everyone who has passed away needs to be cared for and remembered so that they are not left alone and lonely. This thought has motivated our members to dedicate themselves to this quiet but meaningful work. Currently, the Association assigns each branch to maintain a group of 5-7 people who regularly visit and care for the unmarked graves. In the future, we plan to plant more flowers and trees to create a clean and beautiful landscape, contributing to a more solemn and warm atmosphere for the cemetery.”

According to local authorities, in the coming time, during the land clearance process for the project, any unclaimed graves discovered will be gathered and reburied here. Mr. Le Thanh Binh, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Tien Dien commune, said: "The fact that the Elderly Association of the commune is taking responsibility for caring for and offering incense to the unclaimed graves is a very humane activity. In the future, the locality will continue to cooperate with the Elderly Association of the commune, mobilizing more social resources to support the work of gathering, caring for, and offering incense to the graves, thereby contributing to maintaining and spreading this meaningful model as well as educating the younger generation about the tradition of compassion and kindness."
