The working delegation of the Provincial Party Committee and People's Committee learned about the fruit yield of the wax coconut variety experimentally grown by the TVU.

According to the Board of Directors of TVU, in the period of 2020 - 2023, the University has accepted 145 scientific research topics at all levels; in particular, including the results of the topic "Research on coconut propagation using cell tissue culture technology and intensive coconut cultivation techniques for tissue cultured coconut varieties". Thereby, it has applied in the production of embryo-cultured wax coconut varieties according to orders, at the same time, transferring the "Intensive cultivation process of wax coconut" to households growing embryo-cultured wax coconut in and outside the provinces: Thanh Hoa, Hau Giang, Tien Giang , Ben Tre, Dong Nai, Dong Thap, An Giang, Soc Trang, Long An, Bac Lieu, Dak Lak...
Comrade Ngo Chi Cuong, Secretary of Tra Vinh Provincial Party Committee, checks the wax content of coconuts grown experimentally by TVU.
Accordingly, the University has built a 5-hectare experimental garden for growing embryonated wax coconut varieties from the results of the TVU's research project. It has now produced fruit. This is the place to provide fruit and embryonated wax coconut seedlings for the locality in the future. From the research results, applying the wax coconut tissue culture process with the current scale produces 5,000 seedlings/year. In the period from 2020 to present, about 7,000 wax coconut trees have been brought to the market and the revenue is about 5.6 billion VND.
Based on the reality, the Board of Directors of TVU proposed that the Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial People's Committee approve the funding source for ordering wax coconut tissue culture of the University to implement the project on wax coconut tissue culture (phase 2), in order to increase the coefficient of wax coconut tree propagation and create genetically uniform varieties, reduce the cost of seedling production, and contribute to the agricultural development of the province and the region.
Provincial Party Secretary Ngo Chi Cuong and members of the working delegation visited the wax coconut garden of TVU.
In his concluding remarks, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Ngo Chi Cuong acknowledged the recommendations of the University's leaders. The Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee directed relevant provincial departments and branches to support procedures and documents... so that the Provincial Party Committee and Provincial People's Committee could consider providing financial support to help the TVU carry out phase 2 as requested.
Provincial Party Secretary Ngo Chi Cuong emphasized: Currently, the TVU has all the conditions: human resources, means, so it is necessary to speed up the progress of coconut breeding in terms of scale, quantity, quality... to meet the needs of farmers in and outside the province; ensure that coconut seeds need to be of better quality than those outside, and need to have a lower price than the free market.
Master Nguyen Ngoc Trai, Acting Director of the Center for Biology and Applications, Faculty of Agriculture and Fisheries, introduced the development potential of wax coconut embryo culture.
The Provincial Party Secretary assigned the TVU to actively participate in improving and enhancing the quality of traditional coconut varieties. Coconut trees are a key crop, suitable for soil conditions and climate change, upgrading and improving traditional coconut varieties is necessary...
