Lao Cai organizes the launching ceremony in response to World Diabetes Day (November 14)

Attending the ceremony were representatives of the Provincial Steering Committee for Health and Population and communes and wards; Regional Health Centers and a large number of forces and people in Bao Thang commune.

In Vietnam, the rate of diabetes is currently increasing according to the general trend of the world . A recent national survey by the Central Endocrinology Hospital shows that in 2002, the rate of people with diabetes nationwide was 2.7%. After a decade, in 2012, this rate doubled to 5.4%. The results of the most recent national survey in 2020 showed that the rate of diabetes in Vietnam was 7.3%; The rate of pre-diabetes was 17.8%.

In Lao Cai province, the rate of diabetes patients detected and managed has increased over the years. According to statistics, by September 2025, the whole province detected and managed more than 21,000 patients with diabetes. In addition, the rate of people with undiagnosed diabetes in the community is still very high and the age of diabetes is getting younger. The main causes of this rapid increase are urbanization, excess energy diets and sedentary lifestyles. These are truly difficulties and challenges for the health system.

Speaking at the ceremony, Comrade Luc Hau Giang, Deputy Director of the Department of Health, called on all levels of government, departments, organizations and the entire community to pay attention to supporting diabetes prevention activities; increase propaganda for all people in the community to pay attention to disease prevention such as: regular health check-ups, blood sugar testing to detect the disease early for timely intervention measures.

Through the launching ceremony in response to World Diabetes Day to raise public awareness and mobilize the attention and direction of authorities and organizations at all levels for propaganda work to raise people's awareness of diabetes, thereby gradually improving people's health in Lao Cai province.
