On the afternoon of December 1, in Vientiane (Laos), on behalf of the Lao Party and State, Lao General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith presented General Secretary To Lam with the National Gold Medal. The Vietnamese leader is on a state visit to Laos from December 1 to 2.

Living proof of Vietnam - Laos friendship

According to VNA, this is the most noble medal of the Lao State, awarded to General Secretary To Lam for his great contributions to fostering the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two Parties, two States and peoples.

Speaking at the ceremony, General Secretary To Lam shared his honor and emotion at receiving the National Gold Medal - the most noble award of the Party, State and people of Laos.

He shared that this is not only a source of great pride for him personally, but also a vivid testament to the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos - a relationship that has become an exemplary, timeless symbol of comradeship and brotherhood.

General Secretary To Lam expressed his gratitude and remembrance of the great President Ho Chi Minh, President Kaysone Phomvihane and beloved President Souphanouvong - those who directly nurtured, built and laid a solid foundation for the relationship between the two countries.

The Vietnamese leader expressed his deep gratitude to the Lao Party, State and people for always standing side by side with the Vietnamese Party, State and people during the past struggle for national independence, as well as the present cause of protecting, building and developing the country.

General Secretary To Lam emphasized that the spirit of solidarity has become a great strength leading to our glorious victory, peace and independence today and will continue to guide the two countries and peoples of Vietnam and Laos to always accompany each other, share the same aspirations and destiny, just like the proverb "Unity is strength".

He affirmed that he will continue to work with the collective leadership of the Vietnamese Party and State to make every effort, and with the leadership of the Lao Party and State to foster the loyal and steadfast Vietnam-Laos relationship to develop more and more, worthy of the sacrifices and contributions of previous generations, meeting the aspirations of the people of the two countries.

Series of bilateral cooperation documents

Previously, also at noon on December 1, right after the talks, General Secretary To Lam and General Secretary and President of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith and high-ranking delegations of the two countries witnessed the handover ceremony of cooperation documents.

According to VNA, the documents include:

- Cooperation plan for 2026 between the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam and the Ministry of Public Security of Laos.

- Agreement between the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam and the Ministry of Public Security of Laos on the construction of the Lao Ministry of Public Security Command Center project.

- Cooperation plan for 2026 between the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense and the Lao Ministry of National Defense.

- Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam and the Ministry of National Defense of Laos on the project to build the Vietnam - Laos friendship road.

- Minutes of cooperation agreement between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Laos for the period 2026 - 2030.

- Cooperation agreement between Vietnam Television and the Central Propaganda Department of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party.

- Minutes of cooperation agreement between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam and the Central External Relations Commission of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party for the period 2026 - 2030.

- Cooperation agreement for the period 2026 - 2030 between Thanh Hoa province, Vietnam and Houaphanh province, Laos.

- Memorandum of Understanding on strengthening cooperation in socio-economic development and ensuring national defense and border security between the People's Committee of Da Nang City, Vietnam and the Government Committee of Sekong Province, Laos for the period 2026 - 2030.
