Laporta speaks out on news of Messi's return to Barca

Barcelona president Joan Laporta has put an end to speculation about Leo Messi returning to the Catalan club on a short-term loan.

Laporta quashes rumours of Messi returning to Camp Nou.

Speaking on Catalunya Radio , Laporta clearly stated: “Out of respect for Messi, the current players and the club members, this is not the time to discuss unrealistic scenarios.”

In recent days, Spanish media have been abuzz with reports that Barcelona would like to bring Messi back in a few months, when the MLS season is on hiatus. However, Laporta's statement slams that door shut. He stressed that the club is fully focused on the current sporting project under Hansi Flick and does not want to create chaos in the dressing room.

Messi is still on the payroll of Inter Miami, where he helped the American team win its first title in history, the 2023 Leagues Cup. The 38-year-old superstar is also preparing for the 2026 World Cup with the Argentina team.

Laporta’s rejection of Messi’s “return home” shows that Barcelona is no longer inclined towards emotional decisions. After a period of financial reconstruction, the team prioritizes internal stability and giving opportunities to the younger generation such as Lamine Yamal or Gavi.

A new era has truly begun at Camp Nou. And for Laporta, recalling the glorious past with Messi is now just a distant dream.
