Captain Lautaro Martinez was the one who opened the scoring and won a penalty for Inter Milan, and together with Hakan Calhanoglu, put the home team 2-0 ahead of Barca before the first half ended.
After the break, the Serie A representative let Barca equalize in 6 minutes, thanks to goals from Eric Garcia (54') and Dani Olmo (60'). Raphinha thought he would be the hero to help Barca complete the comeback on the away field, with a goal to increase the score to 3-2 in the 87th minute.
However, Hansi Flick's side were punished by Inter Milan in the disastrous 90+3 minute of injury time and then lost 3-4 in extra time (99 minutes), eventually being eliminated by their opponents with a total score of 6-7 after 2 matches.
In the joy of Inter Milan reaching the semi-finals, Lautaro Martinez made a shocking revelation: he played despite being injured.

“ I cried a lot after the first leg against Barca, but I promised my family that I would be on the field fighting in the home match.
Actually, I was in a lot of pain. My legs were aching. I cried for two days but I couldn't miss the second leg of the semi-final between Inter Milan and Barca.
I wrapped it up and went out on the pitch. That's who I am, that's how I live football .”
Lautaro Martinez's revelations made Inter Milan fans even more emotional on a memorable night for them. Indeed, the Argentine striker's performance, although not at 100% and unable to play the whole match, was still the key for the Italian team.
Lautaro Martinez's leadership, passion and courage are the foundation to take Inter Milan to the 2024/25 Champions League final.
