42/48 teams have been determined
After the qualifying round in November, the 2026 FIFA World Cup has determined 42/48 participating teams.
The 42 specific teams are as follows: Co-hosts (3): Canada, Mexico, United States; Asia (8): Australia, Iran, Japan, Jordan, South Korea, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Uzbekistan; Africa (9): Algeria, Cabo Verde, Ivory Coast, Egypt, Ghana, Morocco, Senegal, South Africa, Tunisia; North Central America and the Caribbean (3): Curaçao, Haiti, Panama; South America (6): Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Uruguay; Oceania (1): New Zealand; Europe (12): Austria, Belgium, Croatia, England, France, Germany, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Scotland, Spain, Switzerland.
The 2026 World Cup still has 6 spots to be determined in March 2026. Of which 2 spots are for the winners of the intercontinental play-off and 4 spots for the winners of the European play-off.
Seed division
Based on the latest rankings, FIFA has divided the 48 teams into 4 seed groups. Group 1 includes the teams: Canada, Mexico, the United States, Spain, Argentina, France, England, Brazil, Portugal, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany .
The teams Croatia, Morocco, Colombia, Uruguay, Switzerland, Japan, Senegal, Iran, South Korea, Ecuador, Austria, Australia are in pot 2.
Group 3 includes teams: Norway, Panama, Egypt, Algeria, Scotland, Paraguay, Tunisia, Ivory Coast, Uzbekistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, South Africa.
Jordan, Cabo Verde, Ghana, Curaçao, Haiti, New Zealand and the six play-off winners are in pot 4.
The draw process will start with the drawing of group 1 teams into groups A to L. The same process will then take place for groups 2, 3 and 4.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be held next summer in the United States, Mexico and Canada. It will be the first World Cup to feature 48 teams.
