The Yen Tu - Vinh Nghiem - Con Son - Kiet Bac World Cultural Heritage site was recognized by UNESCO at its 47th session.

On July 12, 2025, at the 47th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee held in Paris, France, the Yen Tu - Vinh Nghiem - Con Son - Kiet Bac complex of historical sites and scenic spots in Quang Ninh province, Bac Ninh province and Hai Phong city was recognized as a World Cultural Heritage site.

This is a series of relics and sites located in three provinces and cities: Quang Ninh, Hai Phong, and Bac Ninh, associated with the birth, spread, and development of the Truc Lam Zen sect. The heritage site is the birthplace and development center of purely Vietnamese Zen Buddhism, directly founded by Vietnamese people.

This area also brings together ancient architectural structures including temples, hermitages, pilgrimage routes, steles, woodblock prints, and well-preserved sacred sites stretching from Yen Tu to Vinh Nghiem, Con Son, and Kiet Bac. The heritage fully reflects the stages of development of Truc Lam Buddhism from its founding to its institutionalization, and then to the periods of revival and succession.

The UNESCO-recognized World Heritage site of Yen Tu - Vinh Nghiem - Con Son, Kiet Bac is evidence of the unique combination of state, religion, and people in shaping the Vietnamese national identity. The sacred landscape of the complex was formed through constant and intimate interaction with nature and an ethical system based on love of peace, self-cultivation, tolerance, compassion, and harmony between humanity and nature.

Yen Tu is known as the capital of Vietnamese Buddhism.

This is also a place where long-standing religious and cultural traditions are practiced, inspiring both domestic and international communities. It is a captivating religious center and an important pilgrimage destination, affirming the vibrant cultural and spiritual value of this tradition for Vietnamese people both at home and abroad. This aligns perfectly with UNESCO's core objective of promoting the shared values of humanity: peace, reconciliation, harmony, and harmonious coexistence.

The UNESCO inscription not only affirms the outstanding global value of the heritage site, but also demonstrates Vietnam's systematic and consistent investment in the conservation, preservation, and promotion of cultural and historical values across generations.

This also serves as an important impetus for localities co-owning heritage sites to strengthen linkages and coordination in management, preservation, and rational exploitation, making heritage sites the foundation for the development of cultural tourism, cultural industries, and heritage economy, contributing practically to Vietnam's sustainable growth in the new era.
