From March 26 to 29 (February 17 to 20 of the lunar calendar), the 2024 Quan The Am Ngu Hanh Son festival will be held at the Quan The Am pagoda (Ngu Hanh Son district, Da Nang city). This year's festival will be held for 4 days, longer than last year, so the organizers had to make full preparations for many months.
Speaking with Lao Dong Newspaper, Venerable Thich Hue Vinh - Abbot of Quan The Am Pagoda (Ngu Hanh Son, Da Nang City) said that this year, the Quan The Am Ngu Hanh Son Festival 2024 is organized on a larger scale than previous years.
"This year's festival is on a larger scale, one day longer than last year, so we have to work hard to prepare for the festival," said Venerable Thich Hue Vinh.
The opening ceremony of the Quan The Am Festival will take place at 5:30 p.m. on March 26 (February 17 of the lunar calendar), and the Quan The Am Bodhisattva's birthday ceremony (official ceremony) will take place at 7 a.m. on March 28 (February 19 of the lunar calendar).
In particular, the new feature of this year's festival will be a traditional boat racing competition on Co Co River with historical scenes reenacted on the river, a drawing contest about the Quan The Am festival, a writing contest about the works of Van Hanh library, an Olympic run "For Peace " and many other art activities and folk games...
The festival also has a discussion on promoting the value of the Quan The Am festival and cultural heritages in the Ngu Hanh Son National Special Monument complex.
There are also booths displaying and demonstrating Non Nuoc stone carving, OCOP booths introducing typical products of Da Nang city...
In 2000, the Quan The Am Ngu Hanh Son festival was ranked by the General Department of Tourism as one of the 15 major festivals in the country.
In 2021, the Ngu Hanh Son Quan The Am Festival was recognized as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
From 2023, the Ngu Hanh Son Quan The Am Festival will be organized by the People's Committee of Da Nang City on a city scale.
