The results of the most recent national survey by the Central Endocrinology Hospital in 2020 showed that the rate of diabetes in Vietnam is 7.3%; the rate of pre-diabetes is 17.8%.
In Lao Cai province, the rate of diabetes patients detected and managed has increased over the years. As of September 2025, the whole province detected and managed more than 21,000 patients with diabetes.
The main causes of this rapid increase are urbanization, energy-rich diets and sedentary lifestyles.
