Le Thanh Thuy and Le Minh Thuan were given the honor of holding the flag for the Vietnamese Sports Delegation.

VHO - On the morning of December 7, the Vietnamese Sports Delegation will officially depart for Thailand to attend the 33rd SEA Games, under the leadership of Head of Delegation Nguyen Hong Minh - Deputy Director of the Department of Physical Training and Sports. It is expected that about 200 members will represent Vietnam to attend the Opening Ceremony held in Bangkok on December 9.

Notably, the two athletes assigned to hold the flag for the Vietnamese Sports Delegation at the opening ceremony of this Congress are Le Thanh Thuy (volleyball) and Le Minh Thuan (karate) - outstanding faces not only in terms of expertise but also in terms of ethics and lifestyle and competition.

Middle blocker Le Thanh Thuy is a pillar of the national women's volleyball team, having participated in many SEA Games since 2015 and won 4 silver medals with the team (2015, 2019, 2021, 2023). Most recently, at the 32nd SEA Games in 2023 in Cambodia, she and her teammates played excellently to reach the final.

Besides, she also made her mark in international arenas such as the AVC Nations Cup 2025 championship, VTV Cup and SEA V.League 2025 runner-up (stage 1), SEA V.League stage 2 champion and participated in the World Championship in the same year.

Meanwhile, martial artist Le Minh Thuan – captain of the national karate team – is one of the veteran and exemplary faces of the Vietnamese martial arts community. He won a gold medal at the 29th SEA Games in 2017 and was evaluated by the coaching staff as a highly skilled martial artist, an exemplary senior, and a positive influence on the younger generation.

This is the first time Le Thanh Thuy and Le Minh Thuan have been chosen to be the flag bearers representing the 1,165 members of the Vietnamese Sports Delegation at a SEA Games. Two years ago, this honor belonged to swimmer Nguyen Huy Hoang – who has taken on this important role twice in a row (SEA Games 31 in 2022 and SEA Games 32 in 2023).

Currently, both Le Thanh Thuy and Le Minh Thuan are focusing on the national team, actively training with the determination to achieve high results at this year's Congress.

The 33rd SEA Games will officially open on December 9 in Bangkok. Before the opening ceremony, in addition to the men's and women's football teams that have left early according to the competition schedule, on December 7, Head of Delegation Nguyen Hong Minh, along with Deputy Heads of Delegation, officials, doctors and some other teams will follow to Thailand, ready to embark on the journey to conquer new achievements for Vietnamese Sports.
