At exactly 6:00 AM on January 14th, the memorial service for General Le Van Dung took place at the National Funeral Home in the South (Pham Ngu Lao Street, Ho Chi Minh City).

A delegation from the Central Committee of the Communist Party, led by Mr. Do Van Chien - Standing Vice Chairman of the National Assembly - paid their respects to General Le Van Dung and offered condolences to his family.
Joining the delegation were former General Secretary Nong Duc Manh, former Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, former President Nguyen Minh Triet, former President Truong Tan Sang, former Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, and others.
On behalf of the Party and State leaders, Mr. Do Van Chien extended his deepest condolences to the family of General Le Van Dung.

According to the Funeral Committee and family: After a period of serious illness, despite the dedicated care and treatment from the Party, State, Army, a team of professors and doctors, and family, due to old age and weak health, General Le Van Dung passed away at 3:40 PM on January 9, 2026 (corresponding to November 21, Year of the Snake) at his private residence, at the age of 81.
General Lê Văn Dũng (birth name Nguyễn Văn Nới) was born on December 25, 1945; his birthplace is Phong Mỹ commune, Giồng Trôm district, former Bến Tre province, now Lương Hòa commune, Vĩnh Long province; his permanent residence is at 702 An Bình hamlet, Phú Túc commune, Vĩnh Long province.
He enlisted in the army on May 14, 1963; and joined the Party on September 23, 1965. He was a member of the Central Committee of the Party for the 8th, 9th, and 10th terms; Secretary of the Central Committee for the 9th and 10th terms; and a Member of the National Assembly for the 11th and 12th terms.
He was formerly the Deputy Minister of National Defence - Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army; and Head of the General Political Department of the Vietnam People's Army.
The coffin of General Le Van Dung was draped with the red national flag and placed in a prominent position in the center of the ceremonial platform.

Throughout his revolutionary career, General Le Van Dung made numerous contributions to the revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation. He was awarded the Ho Chi Minh Order, the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces, the 60-Year Party Membership Badge, and many other prestigious medals and awards by the Party and the State.
To express their sorrow and acknowledge the achievements and contributions of General Le Van Dung, the Central Committee of the Communist Party, the National Assembly, the President, the Government, and the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front have decided to organize the funeral of General Le Van Dung with state funeral rites.
The wake will be held from 6:00 AM to 10:30 AM on January 14, 2026 (corresponding to the 26th day of the 11th lunar month of the Year of the Snake). The funeral service will begin at 10:30 AM on January 14, 2026. The burial will take place at 5:30 PM on the same day at the family's land, No. 702 An Binh Hamlet, Phu Tuc Commune, Vinh Long Province.
