Developed from the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado platform, the new Lexus GX550 2026 offers a more premium experience. In Malaysia, the GX550 is distributed in two versions: the off-road-oriented GX550 Overtrail, priced at RM 780,000 (equivalent to VND 5 billion) and the comfort-focused GX550 Luxury+, priced at RM 830,000 (equivalent to VND 5.3 billion). In terms of appearance, the Lexus GX has an overall length of 4,950 mm, width of 1,980 mm and height of 1,865 mm. The Overtrail version is exactly 2,000 mm wide and 25 mm higher due to a higher roof rack and extended suspension.
The front end design features 3-piece LED headlights, arrow-shaped daytime running lights and a spindle grille integrated with a skid plate. The rear end has U-shaped LED taillights and a modern printed Lexus logo. The Luxury+ version uses 22-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels painted in gray, while the Overtrail version uses 18-inch wheels painted in matte gray with off-road tires. The GX550 cabin is finished more premium than the Prado with a vertical dashboard, Tsuyasumi or oak wood veneer, following Lexus' Tazuna cockpit philosophy. The car is equipped with a 12.3-inch digital screen, a 14-inch central touchscreen that supports wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, dual-zone automatic climate control with physical knobs and the Lexus Climate Concierge system. The front seats are 8-way power-adjustable, with heating and ventilation. The Overtrail uses synthetic leather, while the Luxury+ uses genuine semi-aniline leather, adding power-adjustable seatbacks for both front seats and 4-way adjustable headrests. The Luxury+ has 7 seats, more than the Overtrail (5), and has two more USB-C ports. Other amenities include an auto-dimming rearview mirror, ambient interior lighting, active noise cancellation, and a 10-speaker Pioneer sound system. The Luxury+ trim gets a panoramic sunroof, a digital rearview mirror, and a 23-speaker Mark Levinson sound system.
In terms of safety, both versions are equipped with 7 airbags (including the center airbag) and the Lexus Safety System+ driver assistance technology package with features such as automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, blind spot warning, rear cross traffic warning, traffic sign recognition, wrong door opening warning, pedal control and automatic headlights. The Luxury+ trim adds BladeScan intelligent headlights, while the Overtrail trim adds hill descent control and a dedicated multi-terrain monitoring (MTM) camera, including an underbody camera and a “see-through” feature that simulates underbody travel. The car uses a twin-turbocharged 3.5L V6 petrol engine (code V35A-FTS), producing 354 horsepower at 4,800–5,200 rpm and 650 Nm of torque from 2,000–3,600 rpm. The car is equipped with a 10-speed automatic transmission and full-time 4-wheel drive, allowing it to accelerate from 0–100 km/h in 7 seconds. The top speed is limited to 175 km/h. Fuel consumption according to the NEDC cycle is 12.3L/100 km.
Based on Toyota's GA-F platform, the new GX features an optimized suspension design that improves stability, ride comfort, and handling. The vehicle uses a double wishbone suspension system up front and a four-link rear axle with coil springs at all four wheels. The GX550 Overtrail is equipped with a rear differential lock system, Multi-Terrain Select terrain selection system with Earth, Sand, Mud, Rock and Auto modes, along with Crawl Control. In particular, this version also has an E-KDSS electronic suspension system that automatically disconnects the stabilizer bar depending on the terrain, increasing the ability to operate over terrain. Meanwhile, the GX550 Luxury+ is geared towards comfort, equipped with a Torsen center differential, adaptive dampers and a conventional drive mode selector. Both versions have a low-range transfer case, a 26-degree approach angle, a 23-degree breakover angle and a 23-degree departure angle. Maximum towing capacity is 3,500 kg for the Overtrail and 3,130 kg for the Luxury+.
