The good meaning of lucky money is easily forgotten
The bright red envelopes on Tet are a way to congratulate the new year, to wish for health, joy, luck, peace, and happiness. Every child who receives a lucky money envelope smiles happily. The money inside, no matter how little or much, will be kept by the children, wrapped up to buy toys, books, clothes, etc.
However, those red envelopes probably only bring momentary joy to the children. They receive the envelopes, happily smile, and then immediately forget that feeling, not to mention many cases where children are somewhat careless and impolite when receiving an amount of lucky money that they do not like.
Red envelopes on Tet holiday are a way to congratulate the new year, to wish for health, joy, luck, peace and happiness.
Many times, the red envelopes are not meant to give lucky money to the children, but rather to their parents. After the children receive the envelopes, their parents immediately collect the money, keep it, and calculate how much they spend. Therefore, many times, giving lucky money in red envelopes loses its original good meaning.
Lucky money book, New Year gift
That is why, in recent years, our family has changed the way we give lucky money to our children and grandchildren. Instead of putting money in red envelopes, we carefully and meticulously choose books that are suitable for our children as gifts.
Try it and you will see, just by changing a little bit, replacing lucky money envelopes with books, the joy will multiply many times. The world of books today is extremely rich in genres, designs, and values, so finding some types of books suitable for children is not difficult.
For the two and three year olds, I chose coloring books and stickers to develop intelligence. For the four and five year olds, I gave comic booksthat teach life skills and good habits. For the six and seven year olds, I gave books to solve maze mysteries, puzzle books, bilingual books, and books about skillful hands and doing things. For the slightly older children, I gave them pages written by writers Nguyen Nhat Anh, Nguyen Ngoc Tu, and many other great writers.
At first, when I gave the children books, some people were surprised and even frowned. But then their eyes gradually changed when they saw how excited the children were about the gifts they received.
The children reached out to receive the gifts, thanked each other profusely, then gathered together to open the books and read them excitedly. The younger children competed to stick pictures, the younger children eagerly used pens to find the maze, the older children showed off their talent of reading stories fluently to their younger siblings... Seeing the children's passion and interest in the pages of books, our hearts will also be filled with joy along with our children and grandchildren.
Many parents often complain that their children are lazy to read books. But we have forgotten that we must cultivate the seeds of love for books in our children from an early age. We are willing to buy expensive toys, buy luxurious clothes but spending a little money on books for our children feels like a waste.
Instead of giving lucky money, parents can give books to their children during Tet.
Children are like blank pages, the love of books is hidden deep in their souls. Parents must create opportunities for their children to be close to books, approach books and practice reading with them to hope to kindle the habit of reading for each child.
Tet is an interesting and useful time to read books. Instead of the stressful Tet holidays forcing children to huddle over piles of Tet homework, why don't we give them time to read books to nourish their souls? Instead of the leisurely Tet holidays "letting" children go to smartphones, iPads, computers, TVs, why don't we create for them the habit of holding books, reading slowly, thinking and learning?
Instead of hastily putting a few tens of thousands of dong in a red envelope as a lucky money gift to fulfill our "duty", why don't we carefully show our love and care with a gift - a book? This Tet , try replacing the lucky money envelope with a book, you will reap the "sweet fruit" from this early spring gift.
