The 2025 National Tuong and Folk Opera Festival will take place from November 17 to 26 at Kim Ma Theater - Vietnam National Traditional Theater with more than 1,000 artists from 10 art units competing.
According to information from the Department of Performing Arts (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism), the festival is organized to arouse love, passion and responsibility for preserving and promoting traditional arts of generations of artists and actors, and at the same time discover new creative factors in artistic work.
This is an artistic activity of special significance, honoring traditional artistic values imbued with national cultural identity, helping the audience understand and love more Tuong theater and folk opera - two typical art forms rich in aesthetic values and philosophy of life of the Vietnamese people.
The festival is not only a forum for exchange, learning and sharing of artistic experiences between professional art units nationwide, but also an opportunity to propose innovative solutions in management, staging, performance and artist training methods, suitable for development requirements in the new period; honoring artists, authors, directors and units with outstanding contributions to the preservation and creation of traditional theatrical forms.
The 2025 National Tuong and Folk Opera Festival brings together 14 elaborately staged plays, deeply reflecting social life, praising the traditional history, homeland, country, and people of Vietnam, honoring moral and humanistic values and aspirations for goodness, with the participation of nearly 1,000 artists and actors from 10 art units across the country.
The plays and folk operas participating in the festival all have a contemporary feel but still retain their traditional core, contributing to the building of an advanced Vietnamese stage with a strong national identity, aiming at the goal of developing culture for the people and arousing the aspiration for a prosperous and happy Vietnam. The works also aim to affirm the value of the national intangible cultural heritage of the types of plays (hat boi) and folk operas (folk opera melodies such as bai choi, Hue opera, etc.).
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will present noble awards to groups and individuals with outstanding achievements, including: Outstanding Award for plays and Outstanding Award for performing artists (1 male, 1 female); Gold Medals, Silver Medals for plays and artists; Outstanding Award for creative elements such as scriptwriters, directors, musicians, and designers./.
