The top candidate to lead Indonesia has been revealed: an impressive resume, and three teams are simultaneously vying for his services.

"The position of head coach of the Indonesian national team is currently under consideration. Additionally, we are in discussions with clubs in Türkiye and China," Coach Kapadze revealed in a recent interview.

According to Bola.com, PSSI will fiercely compete to secure the services of coach Kapadze. Previously, the Indonesian sports newspaper outlined four reasons why the Indonesian national team must have Kapadze.

Firstly, Coach Kapadze possesses impressive professional skills, having elevated the entire level of Uzbekistani football. Under his leadership since January 2025, the Uzbekistan national team has made remarkable progress and gone straight to qualifying for the 2026 World Cup.

Furthermore, another important reason why PSSI appointed Coach Kapadze, according to Bola.com, is his vision. Before leading the Uzbekistan national team, Kapadze impressed while coaching the Uzbekistan U23 team, helping them win a silver medal in men's football at the 19th Asian Games.

Coach Kapadze will meet all the criteria PSSI needs for a new coach. He is a head coach with a deep understanding of Asian football, has comprehensive experience working from youth levels to the national team, and has led high-level campaigns such as World Cup qualifiers.

Following their failure in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, PSSI (Vietnam Football Federation) is aiming for a long-term goal for the national team: a ticket to the 2030 World Cup. Coach Kapadze made history by leading Uzbekistan to their first-ever World Cup finals appearance. This is precisely the ambition PSSI wants to instill in the new coach.

For the past week, discussions about the Indonesian national team's head coach position have revolved solely around Kapadze. Sumardji, President of the National Teams Agency, acknowledged that PSSI is particularly interested in Kapadze for the "head coach" role.

PSSI President Erick Thohir said that PSSI will put five coaches on a shortlist. The PSSI head affirmed that after the failure with Patrick Kluivert, the coach selection process will be rigorous, outlining many specific criteria to meet the long-term goals of the Indonesian national team.
