American travel guide Lonely Planet voted Vietnam's North-South railway to top the list of the most beautiful railways in the world .
According to Lonely Planet, some famous railways run through historic cities or breathtaking coastlines. A few have a rich history, or attract tourists with colorful decorations.
"The Thong Nhat Railway, also known as the North-South Railway, meets all these criteria," the world-famous travel guide affirms. In addition, the North-South Railway is also considered the world's most spectacular overnight railway.
Lonely Planet describes the North-South railway as one of the most popular railway routes in Southeast Asia. With a length of 1,730km, this railway connects two major cities of Vietnam, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
During the two-day journey, visitors will admire the beautiful natural scenery from North to South, with towering mountain ranges hidden in the mist, white sand beaches stretching to the blue sea. Through the train window, the bustling, vibrant life of the bustling urban area or the peaceful, quiet countryside passes before their eyes.
