Long Bien from a suburban district has transformed into a modern and civilized urban district.

On November 4, Long Bien district solemnly held the 20th anniversary of the district's establishment (November 6, 2003 - November 6, 2023).

Delivering a commemorative speech, Chairman of Long Bien District People's Committee Nguyen Manh Ha said that exactly 20 years ago - November 6, 2003 - made history for Long Bien District when the Government issued Decree No. 132/NQ-CP on the establishment of Long Bien District on the basis of separation from a part of the administrative boundary of Gia Lam District.

"The birth of Long Bien district is a major event, a milestone leaving a strong mark in the political , economic, cultural and social life of the capital in general and especially of each Long Bien resident in particular," the Chairman of the Long Bien District People's Committee stated.

According to Mr. Nguyen Manh Ha, in the early days of its establishment, Long Bien district faced many difficulties. However, the provisional district Party Committee promptly started the work of building and developing the locality; clearly identifying advantages and challenges, closely following reality, proactively building specific programs and projects, and setting out key tasks in the short and long term.

In particular, with the direction and facilitation of the City leaders, maximizing resources from target programs, social resources, people and businesses, and investors in the area, up to now, the district has basically completed important goals, achieving comprehensive results in all fields. Long Bien has implemented more than 1,400 projects with a total cost of over 200,000 billion VND from both internal and external budget sources.

That has helped Long Bien district quickly transform from a suburban area into an urban area. The district has closely linked infrastructure investment with urban management with many synchronous solutions, persistently focusing on building a civilized urban lifestyle among the people, especially preserving the landscape and environment so that Long Bien urban appearance becomes a livable place...

With outstanding achievements in the period of 2018-2022, the Party Committee, government and people of Long Bien district were awarded the First Class Labor Medal by the President. This is the third time in 20 years that Long Bien district has received this honor.

On behalf of the City's leaders, speaking at the ceremony, Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Tran Sy Thanh warmly commended and congratulated the outstanding achievements that the Party Committee, government and people of Long Bien district have achieved over the past 20 years.

Stating the context, situation, difficulties and challenges, as well as new opportunities, the Chairman of the City People's Committee requested the Party Committee, government and people of Long Bien district to continue to be more proactive, creative and flexible in leading, directing, operating and organizing the implementation of tasks.

With the goal of successfully implementing the Resolution of the 4th Long Bien District Party Congress, associated with effectively implementing 10 work programs, 5 key tasks, 3 breakthroughs of the City Party Committee for the 2020-2025 term, comrade Tran Sy Thanh suggested that the district focus on directing the effective implementation of 5 groups of tasks.

In particular, the Chairman of the City People's Committee noted that the district needs to promote and effectively exploit comparative advantages, unleash resources to boost socio-economic development; pay attention to and create favorable conditions for economic sectors to develop together, promptly remove difficulties for production and business activities, ensuring the economy continues to grow rapidly and sustainably.

In particular, it is necessary to focus on developing trade and service sectors; prioritizing digital economy, logistics services, education, healthcare, banking and finance; promoting urban economic development, eco-tourism associated with craft village tourism and developing the night-time economy...

The district needs to continue to improve planning work, determine planning tasks to be one step ahead, and ensure that infrastructure development planning is synchronous with the overall socio-economic development planning.

In particular, Long Bien needs to identify the Red River as a green axis, a central landscape and develop urban areas in harmony on both sides of the river. Strengthen urban management associated with building a civilized urban lifestyle; research urban development towards a smart city based on linking technical infrastructure, social infrastructure and information technology.

Mr. Tran Sy Thanh also requested the district to focus on developing cultural and social fields, paying special attention to effectively implementing Resolution No. 09-NQ/TU of the City Party Committee on developing cultural industries; focusing on investing in developing education and training; improving the quality of health care for the people; fully and promptly implementing policies for people with meritorious services, policy families, and those in difficult circumstances.

Ensure national defense and security; promptly and satisfactorily resolve complicated issues, especially those related to site clearance for key projects and works...

Along with that, it is necessary to strengthen the work of Party building and rectification, building a clean and strong political system, associated with promoting the study and following of Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and lifestyle, the exemplary role of leaders; innovate the leadership and direction methods of Party committees and authorities at all levels associated with the implementation of Directive No. 24-CT/TU dated August 7, 2023 of the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee on "Strengthening discipline, discipline and responsibility in handling work in the political system of Hanoi city".

“With the achievements gained over the past 20 years, we believe that the Party Committee, government and people of Long Bien district will continue to promote the tradition of solidarity, constantly innovate and create, make more efforts and be more determined to build Long Bien district into a civilized and modern urban area, contributing worthily to the cause of building and developing the capital and the country,” Mr. Tran Sy Thanh emphasized.
