| The landslide occurred on August 12 at Thuong Thoi Tien embankment. |
According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment, to date, the temporary repair work by spreading geotextiles and dropping sandbags at two landslide and subsidence locations in the Thuong Thoi Tien embankment area has been completed. However, at 12:30 on August 12, the above area continued to experience landslides and subsidence with a length of about 50m (about 150m from the previous collapsed section). The landslide damaged the entire embankment, sidewalk, curb, creating a frog-like jaw that gouged deep into the asphalt road surface.
Upon receiving the information, the Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Dong Thap province was present at the scene, coordinating with the locality and relevant units to direct the remedial work. Regarding the remedial plan, the locality will mobilize resources to temporarily fix the situation to limit further landslides and subsidence by reinforcing sandbags on the geotextile base.
Also according to the Department of Agriculture and Environment, according to the measurement results of the Southern Institute of Water Resources on August 8, 2025, compared to the design terrain (in 2012), the Tien River channel through the Thuong Thoi Tien embankment area has been eroded 5-10m deep. The lowering of the channel causes deep erosion inside the embankment foot, washing away the embankment body material, and the risk of instability along the entire Thuong Thoi Tien anti-erosion embankment at any time.
Faced with particularly complex and unpredictable developments, the Department of Agriculture and Environment recommends that the Provincial People's Committee, based on current regulations, coordinate with relevant departments and branches to survey and propose the Provincial People's Committee to declare a natural disaster emergency with an affected area of about 2,700m.
Among them, there are 4 urgent and dangerous landslide points with a length of 170m, directly affecting the Thuong Thoi Tien anti-landslide embankment, important infrastructure works, production and business establishments... Urgent measures must be immediately deployed to respond and overcome the consequences to prevent and minimize damage caused by natural disasters.
