As soon as the baby models were placed neatly on the table, the whole baby bathing class suddenly became bustling with indescribable expressions from the students.
You are so shy that you don't dare to pick up the baby. You hold the baby stiffly like hugging a "log", and your face turns red as you frantically wipe each of the baby's fingers or change the diaper.
The sounds of “Ouch!” and “Wait! Fall!” continuously resounded, making the Health Department classroom corner the highlight of the Student Support Day with Startup Ideas for the 2025-2026 school year, organized by the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City in coordination with Hong Bang International University on December 6-7.
MSc. Phan Thi Dieu Hien, lecturer of the Nursing Department, Hong Bang International University, has almost no breaks, continuously welcoming groups of students into class.
She held a model of a newborn baby and demonstrated how to support its head, wash its face, wash its hair, bathe its body, care for its navel, change its diaper, and dress it. Her every move was decisive and gentle, while the students’ actions were… multifaceted.
Here, high school students, for the first time, play the role of nurses, midwives or "promoted" parents, to experience extremely adorable moments when trying to hold and bathe model babies.
“I never thought holding a newborn baby would be so exciting. This is the first time I’ve tried it, it’s both fun and strange, like doing something important that I’ve never thought of,” said Vu Quang Vinh, a 12/6 student at Marie Curie High School.
Even though he has a younger sibling at home, Vinh confessed that he has never bathed or taken good care of him himself; his parents usually do it all.

Vinh said that after just a few minutes of bending over to bathe the model baby, his back ached, enough to understand how hard it was for parents to take care of a real baby. Thanks to this experience, the male student began to imagine careers related to medicine and biology, which were previously quite vague.
Not only Vinh, Tuyet Nhi, class 12A7, Chu Van An Continuing Education Center, was also careful when bathing the model baby for the first time.
“I am very excited. This experience helps me learn more about midwifery, childcare and other health-related professions that I have not paid much attention to before. I also feel more clearly the role of being a father and mother,” Nhi expressed.
According to MSc. Phan Thi Dieu Hien, the baby bathing class is not only a fun experience but also helps students understand more about a profession that requires skills and sophistication.
“Currently, the demand for midwifery and home-based mother-child care services is increasing. Students pursuing this career can work in obstetrics departments, family planning centers, clinics, or even open professional care services. If they study further, they can go abroad or become lecturers,” Ms. Hien shared.

The baby bathing class is just one of dozens of “career slices” designed at the Festival to support students with startup ideas.
The festival not only orients students about startup ideas but also has a series of activities to help them learn and observe careers directly, grasp new recruitment requirements in the digital transformation period and correctly identify their own abilities and interests to avoid choosing a career based on emotions.

According to a representative of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, creating conditions for students to be exposed to a professional environment early helps them form a mindset in choosing a career and plan their future more clearly.
The aim of the series of classes is to help students get hands-on experience in the profession, thereby assessing the level of suitability before deciding to pursue a career or nurturing a startup idea.
