Toy the dog once made great contributions to the Israeli forces in Gaza.
According to The Times of Israel , the Israeli military recently said that the Oketz military dog unit "in many cases" was deployed to sniff out buildings before soldiers stormed in to hunt down Hamas forces in the Gaza Strip.
Trained dogs have helped the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) identify threats, determine routes and detect weapons in buildings.
During the ongoing military campaign, Israel's 460th Armored Brigade in northern Gaza deployed Patrick, a dog from the Oketz military dog unit, to search a building in the Jabaliya area before soldiers stormed in.
The dog detected and subdued a Hamas gunman who was attempting to ambush Israeli soldiers, according to the IDF.

In another incident, in the Rimal area of Gaza City, the unit's dog Toy discovered that a building controlled by Israeli soldiers had a passageway leading to a neighboring building where a Hamas gunman was hiding. Toy attacked the gunman and helped the soldiers avoid an ambush.
According to the New York Post , these dogs wear cameras on their bodies and squeeze through small alleys that soldiers cannot get through.
The images show them, wearing flashlights, storming into previously bombed buildings, climbing over rubble and crawling through small holes in walls. They also lead soldiers up a staircase and through hidden corners inside a building.
Since Hamas attacked Israel, killing 1,140 people and taking about 250 hostages on October 7, 2023, Israel has launched a response campaign with airstrikes and since October 20, 2023, sent troops to destroy Hamas. The fighting has killed about 21,800 people, injured 55,000, displaced millions and severely damaged nearly half of the homes in Gaza, according to The Guardian .
