"Citadel of the Fatherland" is the noble title that Uncle Ho bestowed to honor the sacred mission of the army and people of the South in opening the long-term resistance war of the nation.

80 years ago, implementing the Directive of the Party Central Committee and President Ho Chi Minh, on December 10, 1945 in Binh Hoa Nam commune, Duc Hue district, Long An province (now Duc Hue commune, Tay Ninh province), the Southern Regional Party Committee Conference decided to establish Military Zones 7, 8, 9. Due to the requirements of the struggle for national liberation, building and defending the Fatherland, it gradually connected the Southeast region, the extreme South Central region and the Southern Central Highlands into a particularly important strategic area of ​​the whole country. That is today's Military Zone 7.

Born in the storm of revolution, from the political struggle movement of the masses, the peak of which was the "Southern Uprising"; led and trained by the Party and Uncle Ho, nurtured and protected by the people, the Armed Forces of Military Region 7 have continuously grown and developed in all aspects, overcoming countless difficulties and challenges to fulfill their historical responsibility.

After 80 years of construction, fighting and growing up, Military Region 7 has achieved glorious feats of arms, contributing worthily to the struggle for national liberation, national unification, building and defending the socialist Fatherland of Vietnam and fulfilling international obligations, building the glorious tradition of "Infinite loyalty, proactive creativity, self-reliance, solidarity and determination to win".

Over the past years, thoroughly grasping the Party's military and defense viewpoints and guidelines, the resolutions and directives of the superiors, especially the Central Resolution 8 (term XI, XIII) on "Homeland protection strategy in the new situation", Military Region 7 has proactively studied, grasped, and forecasted the situation, promptly advised the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense on strategic issues of defense and security and organized implementation in accordance with reality. The combined strength in building the all-people national defense has been strongly promoted. The potential in the defense area has been constantly consolidated and strengthened.

The Military Region has had 19 large models and projects; at the local level, there are nearly 100 new, creative and effective projects, typically: Building permanent militia posts (68/72 posts); residential areas adjacent to militia posts, border posts and stations (with more than 800 houses, 2 kindergartens at 58 adjacent residential areas); localities and rear-line units supporting localities and front-line units; strengthening friendly ties, supporting and helping ethnic and religious compatriots (building and donating more than 2,000 houses and 152 cultural works...); building a core political force of reserve soldiers working in export processing zones, industrial parks, companies and enterprises (more than 4,000 comrades); Strengthening solidarity to help the Cambodian and Cuban armies and people (signed agreements with 87 units of the Royal Cambodian Army; the Eastern Army Group under the Ministry of the Cuban Revolutionary Armed Forces; and the Santiago de Cuba Military Region).

Military Region 7 has effectively implemented the breakthrough "Improving the quality of local military and defense work, focusing on building strong local armed forces right from the grassroots": Currently, 100% of commune-level military commands have party cells (1 ward has established a military party committee); 482/483 party cells have party committees, reaching 99.79%; 100% have working headquarters; maintain 10 provincial-level standing militia companies, 1 standing militia squadron ready to handle situations; recruit 1-2% of official party members to join the army each year. When the Covid-19 pandemic broke out, Military Region 7 launched a special emulation movement, mobilizing more than 100,000 officers and soldiers to "fight the epidemic and save the people".

The armed forces of Military Region 7 are built in the direction of being lean, compact, strong, mobile, and flexible. The level and combat readiness of the force are constantly improved; always ensuring "3 readiness", capable of completing well the task of protecting the Fatherland in the new situation. Administrative reform, e-Government building, and digital transformation have achieved many important results. The Party Committee of Military Region 7 focuses on making breakthroughs in building clean and strong grassroots party organizations and party cells; the leadership capacity and fighting strength of party committees and party organizations at all levels and the quality of cadres and party members are improved; every year, the results of analyzing the quality of party organizations and party members show that over 95% of them have completed their tasks well and excellently. Strictly follow the principles of democratic centralism, self-criticism and criticism; continue to effectively implement the model: "Cadres and party members guide the masses and subordinates", "5 good party cells, 5 good party members"...

Continue to select and call high-quality citizens to join the army, improve the quality of party members joining the army and effectively use party members after discharge. Third: Focus on building politically strong units, as the foundation for building a comprehensively strong "exemplary and exemplary" military region armed force; ensure absolute loyalty to the Party, the Fatherland and the people under all circumstances.
