Ly Hai won a 'double' of awards in the US

On November 12, the producer of "Flip Side 8: Vong Tay Nang" announced that director Ly Hai received the award for "Best Film Director" at the 2025 San Francisco International New Concept Film Festival (SFNCFF 2025).

In addition, "Flip Side 8: Vong Tay Nang" also won the award for "Best Vietnamese Feature Film", marking a new milestone in the 10-year journey of the "Flip Side" brand.

SFNCFF is an annual film event that celebrates creative works and independent filmmakers from more than 30 countries in the Americas, Asia and Europe. Among them are the United States, United Kingdom, France, Australia, Japan, Korea, China, Canada, Russia, Poland, Vietnam, India, Thailand, Mexico, Spain, Germany, Iran, Brazil and Egypt.

The festival celebrates independent filmmakers and innovative works, encouraging cultural diversity and storytelling in global cinema.

"Flip Side 8: Vong Tay Nang" was written, directed and produced by Ly Hai, with his wife Minh Ha acting as co-producer. The film premiered in Vietnam on April 30, after early screenings from April 27 to 29. The film quickly attracted audiences, becoming one of the most popular Vietnamese films of the summer.

The film was then released in North America, Europe, Australia and Japan, setting a record as the first Vietnamese film to be released simultaneously on four continents, expanding the reach of the "Flip Side" brand to the global market.

The film revolves around the character Tam (played by Doan The Vinh) - a young man with a passion for music but opposed by his father (played by Long Dep Trai). The story carries a simple message about understanding between generations, family love and dreams, expressed through the performances of the cast: Meritorious Artist Huu Chau, Meritorious Artist Kim Phuong, Meritorious Artist Chieu Xuan, Meritorious Artist Tuyet Thu, Ngan Quynh and many young faces.
