Ly Hoang Nam defeated a strong opponent
On the afternoon of December 6, Ly Hoang Nam entered the biggest and most important battle since changing his career to pickleball.
Vietnam's representative played the final match of the PPA Hangzhou Open (held in China) with Jack Wong (Hong Kit Wong), the strongest tennis player in Asia at present.
Jack Wong is considered to be the favorite, but Ly Hoang Nam is in high spirits after beating Federico Staksrud ( world number two, number one seed of the tournament) 2-0 (11-7, 12-10) in the semi-finals, thanks to his intelligent, tenacious and persistent playing style.

In the final match against Jack Wong, careful preparation and understanding of his opponent's playing style once again helped Ly Hoang Nam excel. Although Jack Wong led by 4 points at the beginning of the match, the 1996-born player calmly took control of the game. Hoang Nam controlled the ball well to the two corners, especially the backhand side. Knowing that Jack Wong was very agile and flexible at the net, Hoang Nam created great pressure right from the return of serve to occupy the NVZ (kitchen) area, forcing his Hong Kong opponent to defend hard. Hoang Nam then equalized 4-4, then swept away his opponent thanks to his tenacious and precise play in each ball movement to win spectacularly 11-4.
The pressure created by Ly Hoang Nam made it impossible for Jack Wong to recover. Wong's proactive (somewhat improvised) play did not surprise Ly Hoang Nam. He was behind 1-8 in set 2, with his shots showing his heavy mentality.
Despite taking the initiative to occupy the better kitchen area in this set, Jack Wong could not stand firm when Hoang Nam continuously shot well on both forehand and backhand. Jack Wong could only get 4 points (shortening the score to 4-9), then quickly lost 4-11.
In the final points, Jack Wong lost control of his mind, while Ly Hoang Nam had the best match of his career, with a very low error rate. Ly Hoang Nam did not have many good points, but he played very firmly, forcing his impatient opponent to make mistakes.
Defeating Jack Wong in 2 sets, Ly Hoang Nam won the PPA Hangzhou Open, a tournament with a total prize fund of 50,000 USD and gathered hundreds of strong players. Ly Hoang Nam was also the last player in the Vietnamese quartet (with Phuc Huynh, Truong Vinh Hien and Trinh Linh Giang) to lift the PPA Tour Asia title.
From being "unlucky" with men's singles finals, Ly Hoang Nam has had the most brilliant achievement of his career to prepare for a new step.
