Coming from a European football background with a strong physical foundation, modern tactical thinking, and quick reflexes, Mac Hong Quan has many advantages when entering the pickleball arena. With a football background, Mac Hong Quan possesses agile footwork, quick directional changes, and excellent balance. It's easy to see that the "situation reading" of a football player is still evident when he plays pickleball. Mac Hong Quan often quickly anticipates the direction of the ball and the opponent's intentions. This allows him to proactively handle many difficult situations.
When it came to playing pickleball, Mac Hong Quan didn't participate as a "celebrity trying something new" but actually invested time in training. After years of playing top-level football, athletes often face injuries and physical exhaustion. Pickleball becomes a suitable option for them because of its moderate intensity but still sufficient resistance to maintain their competitive edge.
At an age where he's no longer as energetic as he was during his peak on the football field, Mac Hong Quan seems to have found a different version of himself on the pickleball court. "From the football field to the pickleball court, the passion for competition has never faded in me. The only difference is that over time, that passion has transformed into a different, gentler form, but still retains the spirit of conquest and the desire to win," he expressed.
Mac Hong Quan admitted that pickleball has a strange allure. He explained: "When playing pickleball, I reconnected with some old friends. Interacting on the court also helped me make many new friends. Playing pickleball together and socializing, we feel like each of us is a member of a big family. Not only do we have fun together, but we also help each other in life."
Speaking about his reasons for participating in both events at the Pickleball Tournament organized by Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper, Mac Hong Quan revealed that he wanted to gain experience and learn, as opportunities to compete against professional players are not always available. "More importantly, this tournament has a charitable purpose. We want to contribute to the social programs that Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper has been working on over the years. This is an opportunity for us to make a small contribution to the community," he stated.
According to Mac Hong Quan, his current pickleball skill level "is only at the point of understanding the rules of the game and knowing how to play without breaking the rules."
However, Mac Hong Quan admitted: "Every time I play pickleball, I always try to execute beautiful shots, not for others' praise, but for my own satisfaction. That's also why whenever I have free time, I grab my racket and go to the court to 'practice' pickleball."
