(Dan Tri) - Mailisa Beauty Salon officially announced its temporary suspension of operations from November 28 after the couple who owned the chain of beauty salons were arrested on charges of smuggling.

On the evening of November 27, on the social networking site Facebook with 2.8 million followers, Mailisa beauty salon officially announced that it would temporarily suspend operations from November 28.

The beauty salon said that this decision was very difficult and it was extremely regrettable that it could not continue to serve customers at this time; at the same time, it apologized to all customers and hoped to receive sympathy to overcome difficulties.

Before the announcement of the Mailisa beauty salon chain, many customers expressed their anger because they still had deposits for beauty services at the branches, and many also expressed their desire to be refunded for the money they had spent on Mailisa's Doctor Magic products.

Previously, on November 21, the Ministry of Public Security announced that the Department of Investigation Police on Corruption, Economic Crimes, and Smuggling (C03) had initiated a case of smuggling at MK Skincare Company and related units. The investigation agency also prosecuted Ms. Phan Thi Mai - Director of Mailisa Beauty Salon Company Limited - along with her husband Hoang Kim Khanh and 6 accomplices for smuggling.

Previously, from the time of inspection until the time when Ms. Phan Thi Mai (also known as Mailisa) and her husband were prosecuted, Mailisa beauty salon continued to post pictures and videos advertising the salon's services. Since November 22, this beauty salon chain has stopped updating new posts on social networking sites. At the same time, it has limited comments from customers.

After the news that the couple who own this chain of beauty salons were arrested for smuggling cosmetics, many consumers who have been using Doctor Magic products purchased from Mailisa Beauty Salon expressed confusion and concern. Many people decided to stop using the products even though they had spent tens of millions of dong to buy them.

In fact, before the time of the criticism, Mailisa's business was doing very well. In a video posted in 2023 on TikTok with millions of followers, Ms. Mai said that the system's products were always in high demand, even "selling out containers".

Activities on TikTok channels also show great consumption, for example, the Mailisa - Doctor Magic channel with more than 372,000 followers has sold nearly 74,000 products; the TMV Mailisa channel has more than 3.1 million followers showing nearly 650,000 products sold, and the Mailisa channel with nearly 182,000 followers also recorded about 283,000 products sold.

On November 25, the Drug Administration of Vietnam, Ministry of Health also recalled 80 declaration receipt numbers and 162 cosmetic products related to Mailisa beauty salon. The recall was due to the company's failure to present a Product Information File (PIF). Lack of PIF makes it impossible for the management agency to assess the safety, effectiveness and quality of the product, posing potential risks to consumers.

Initially, the authorities determined that during the period 2020-2024, Mai and her husband agreed to buy cosmetics manufactured in Guangzhou (China) at low prices. These products did not guarantee the quality and ingredients as declared, and did not meet the conditions for granting a Certificate of Free Sale (CFS) in China.

Afterwards, the defendants colluded with Chinese subjects, signed fake contracts, changed the origin of cosmetics (from Guangzhou to Hong Kong (China) to obtain a CFS in Hong Kong (China), organized smuggling to Vietnam and advertised the cosmetics as being produced in Hong Kong (China).

These products are sold by Mailisa at prices many times higher, illegally earning thousands of billions of dong. The above profit figures are currently calculated from 3/100 main products of the Mailisa system.
