Yesterday afternoon (December 6), U22 Malaysia won 4-1 against U22 Laos at Rajamangala Stadium. This result helped the "Tigers" surpass U22 Vietnam to take the top spot in Group B of SEA Games 33. With this result, U22 Malaysia only needs to draw with U22 Vietnam in the final match to qualify for the next round.

Notably, before this match, U22 Malaysia also received good news when welcoming three important players. In the match against U22 Laos, coach Nafuzi Zain only had 19 players. Key players such as Ubaidullah Shamsul (Terengganu), Fergus Tierney (Sabah) and Aliff Izwan (Selangor) were all absent because their home clubs did not allow them to gather.
After the match with U22 Laos, Ubaidullah Shamsul joined the team. Meanwhile, Fergus Tierney and Izwan Yuslan will be available before the match with U22 Vietnam.
Coach Nafuzi Zain revealed: “We have a list of 23 players but three players have not been allowed to join the team by their clubs because they are busy with matches. Captain Ubaidullah Shamsul arrived in Bangkok on December 6. We are still waiting for Fergus Tierney and Aliff Izwan to join the team. Hopefully we can gather the full force soon.”
The head coach of U22 Malaysia admitted that he was satisfied with his team's performance when facing U22 Laos. He said: "This was not an easy match. As you can see, we were behind 0-1 from the start and that created a lot of pressure. But the players did not give up, they continued to fight and finally won 4-1. I am very satisfied with today's performance."

Unlike the V-League, the national championships of Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia are still taking place, instead of pausing to prioritize the SEA Games. Therefore, the teams are facing many difficulties in terms of force situation.
Right after the match with U22 Timor Leste, 7 Thai players, Kakana Khamyok (Muangthong United), Thanakrit Chotimueangpak (Buriram United), Chanaphat Buaphan (BG Pathum United), Chanon Thamma (BG Pathum United), Sittha Boonla (Port Authority FC), Thanawut Phochai (Nong Bua Pitchaya FC) and Thawatchai Inprakon (Chiang Rai United) were returned to their clubs.
