The first mobile network to activate SIM via VNeID

FPT Mobile Network said it has become the first network operator to deploy the process of activating the main SIM card via VNeID instead of the ID card.

Specifically, after purchasing a SIM card, users will log in to the carrier's application and select "Activate SIM". Here, the application allows users to choose to activate using the VNeID electronic identification account to verify identification information.

"TheFPT Shop application will automatically link with the VNeID application to authenticate data and complete activation registration," a network representative said on October 31, adding that this helps subscribers to be confirmed as owners immediately after completing the registration steps.

Online SIM activation was approved in Vietnam at the end of 2024, after Decree 163, which stipulates a number of articles and measures to implement the Telecommunications Law, was issued. Accordingly, in addition to direct activation at the network operator's transaction point, users can register online via the service provider's application and authenticate with a CCCD card or VNeID identification account.

Up to now, network operators have supported users to activate SIM cards via applications, but mainly using CCCD cards. FPT mobile network is the first unit to support authentication using VNeID. The necessary condition is that the VNeID account has been electronically identified at level 2.

According to the network representative, this helps users proactively carry out the entire registration and sim activation process online, saving time and without having to go to the store or bring a hard copy of their ID card.

"The new form also eliminates the risk of document forgery, because user information has been identified, contributing to standardizing mobile subscribers and preventing the situation of junk SIM cards on the market," this person said.

Recently, a series of services in Vietnam allow authentication via VNeID, such as health records, banks, airlines, digital signatures, and e-wallets.
