The Boeing 737-800 of Batik Air with flight number PK-LDJ departed from Ambon (Indonesia) on a domestic flight to Jakarta. There were 177 passengers and crew members on board.

When approaching Soekarno-Hatta airport at around 7:00 p.m. on June 28 (local time), the plane suddenly encountered strong winds and heavy rain.

Video recorded by passengers and locals shows the plane tilting sharply to the right. Meanwhile, the right wing and engine almost touched the runway for a split second.

Faced with an extremely dangerous situation, the crew promptly took control of the plane. With extensive experience, the captain brought the plane to a safe landing.

No injuries or damage were reported, but many passengers said it felt like the end of the world as the plane lurched violently during the storm.

Immediately after the incident, Mr. Danang Mandala Prihantoro, strategic communications representative of Batik Air confirmed that the incident had just happened to one of the airline's flights.

"While preparing to land, the aircraft was blown off course by strong crosswinds and tilted to one side. The wind force increased while the wind direction remained the same.

However, the plane landed safely and all flight procedures were followed,” Mr. Prihantoro shared information on June 29.

Immediately after the near-miss, the aircraft's engineering team conducted a thorough inspection of the aircraft and concluded that there was no damage. The aircraft was able to continue operating normally.

Mr. Prihantoro emphasized that Batik Air always gives top priority to safety and security in all operations, and is committed to strictly complying with current aviation safety regulations.

It is known that at the time of the incident, due to the influence of thunderstorms, some other flights had to continue flying in the Jakarta sky to wait for the weather to stabilize.
