On August 27, a US military plane carrying about 20 people crashed during exercises in the Northern Territory of Australia.

According to Australia's ABC television, the Osprey aircraft, which is capable of vertical takeoff and landing, crashed during exercises near the Tiwi Islands north of Darwin. Authorities have rescued some people on board.
Meanwhile, the Northern Territory Emergency Management Agency said a plane crash occurred on Melville Island, about 60km north of the Australian mainland, on the morning of August 27 (local time). The Osprey aircraft was participating in a joint exercise between the US and Australian militaries called "Predators Run".
