The 'Lightning Speed' tunnel boring machine of metro line 3 project has reached the finish line at Hanoi station.

On December 1, the Hanoi Urban Railway Management Board (MRB Hanoi) announced that the "Than Toc" TBM tunnel boring machine has officially reached the finish line at station S12 - Hanoi station, completing the entire drilling journey through 4 underground stations of the Nhon - Hanoi station metro project.

TBM1 "Than Toc" started its journey from station S9 (Kim Ma) on July 30, 2024. Up to now, this TBM has completed the entire tunnel drilling journey, passing through 4 underground stations S9 (Kim Ma), S10 (Cat Linh), S11 (Van Mieu) and S12 (Hanoi station).

This is the first time in Hanoi that TBM tunneling technology has been applied to underground construction in the central urban area, passing through areas with high population density, special technical infrastructure and cultural heritage.

During the above period, the "Fast" TBM dug the tunnel and installed 1,720 tunnel lining rings. After finishing drilling at station S12 - Hanoi station, the drilling heads of the TBMs will be dismantled at this station, the remaining auxiliary equipment system will be pulled back and continue to be dismantled at station S9 - Kim Ma.

In parallel, the TBM2 "Bold" machine is also in the process of constructing the remaining tunnel section.

TBM2 is continuing its journey to station S11. As of December 1, the overall construction progress of the CP03 package - tunnel and underground stations has reached more than 72%. The tunnel lining casting work has completed 3,395/3,495 tunnel lining rings, meeting the progress of serving the operation of two TBMs.

Speaking to the press, Mr. Nguyen Ba Son - Deputy Head of MRB Hanoi - assessed that the TBM1 "Lightning Speed" reaching the finish line at station S12 was a historic milestone. According to Mr. Son, this not only marked the completion of the first tunnel line, but also demonstrated the sense of responsibility and persistent efforts of the staff and engineers of the entire project.

"This is the result of the close direction of the City People's Committee, sponsors, close coordination between departments, consulting units, contractors and the support of the capital's people. On this occasion, please allow me to express my deep thanks to the people, especially those who live and work around the project, those who have shared, understood and accompanied us throughout the past time.

"The trust and support of the people is the foundation for our achievements today," Mr. Son expressed.

The Nhon - Hanoi Railway Station urban railway project is a key transport project of the capital, contributing to reducing traffic congestion, improving the public transport system and protecting the environment. The completion of the task of TBM1 has created great motivation, spreading confidence to the community about the progress and quality of the project.

The Nhon - Hanoi Railway Station metro project is one of Hanoi's key transport projects to help reduce traffic congestion, improve the public transport system and enhance the quality of the urban environment.

The Nhon - Hanoi Railway Station railway line is 12.5km long, including 8.5km above ground and 4km underground.

Construction started in September 2010 and was expected to be completed in 2016. The project increased its total investment from VND18,000 billion to VND34,532 billion.

At 8:00 a.m. on August 8, 2024, the Nhon - Hanoi Railway Station metro line officially began commercial operation of the elevated section from Nhon to S8 Station (Cau Giay), 8.5 km long.

Currently, the underground section of the project from Cau Giay to Hanoi station is still under construction, with no date set for commercial operation.
