According to information confirmed by Mr. Tan Sri Ben Yeoh, Executive Chairman of Bermaz Auto - Mazda distributor in Malaysia, the new generation Mazda CX-5 will officially launch in this market in the third quarter of 2026. This information was announced at the recent launch event of Mazda3 and BT-50 facelift.

In the first phase, the 2026 CX-5 will be imported completely built-up (CBU) before switching to domestic assembly after about 12 to 16 months. Notably, the current generation CX-5 will still be sold in parallel, but there will be adjustments: the 2.0L version will be retained, while the 2.5L option will be gradually eliminated to make way for the new generation.
One of the biggest changes on the 2026 Mazda CX-5 is that the car only has one engine option: the 2.5L e-Skyactiv G. This is a naturally aspirated 4-cylinder gasoline engine, integrated with a 24V mild-hybrid system to help save fuel and increase operating efficiency. This engine block produces 141 horsepower and 238 Nm of torque, combined with a 6-speed Skyactiv-Drive automatic transmission and front-wheel drive (FWD).

The new generation CX-5 is developed according to the “Wearable Gear” design philosophy, aiming for dynamism and practicality. The exterior has changed dramatically compared to the present, standing out with a 7-point radiator grille with seamless black borders, slimmer LED lights, combined with square wheel arches and an extended body, creating a strong and modern look.

The cabin has also been completely redesigned, focusing on the digital experience. The car is equipped with a 10.25-inch digital screen behind the steering wheel and a large 12.9 or 15.6-inch central screen depending on the version. Mazda has removed most of the physical buttons, switching to touch controls, bringing a neater and more sophisticated interior space.

In Vietnam, the Mazda CX-5 is still the "king" in the C-class SUV segment, often leading in sales against formidable competitors such as the Ford Territory, Hyundai Tucson or Honda CR-V. Therefore, the early launch of the new generation CX-5 in neighboring markets has made domestic enthusiasts extremely hopeful. It is likely that Mazda Vietnam will quickly bring this model to the country, continuing to heat up the sales race in the mid-size SUV segment.
