Thung Nham Bird Garden is located in the middle of Tien Lake, within the Thung Nham ecological tourist area, in the core region of the Trang An scenic landscape complex (Ninh Binh).

According to the Ninh Binh Provincial Department of Tourism, this is a natural bird sanctuary with tens of thousands of individual birds belonging to more than 46 species such as: cranes, phoenixes, storks, herons, egrets, ducks, teals, fire-breasted magpies, starlings, etc.; some of which are listed in the Vietnam Red Book.

In winter, only a few species of birds migrate south to escape the cold, while the majority remain in Thung Nham Bird Sanctuary.

Upon arriving at Thung Nham Bird Garden, visitors will have the opportunity to witness flocks of wild birds soaring freely in the sky.

The high cliffs are home to cranes and herons; the medium-sized bamboo thickets provide an ideal habitat for egrets. And herons usually nest scattered among the reeds near the water's edge.

The ideal time to visit Thung Nham Bird Garden is at sunset, when flocks of birds fly back to their nests.

To visit the bird sanctuary, tourists can take a boat down Tien Lake into the semi-submerged area, or walk along a 2km forest path to reach a high observation point.

Following the stream, visitors can easily admire flocks of birds soaring at very close range.
Ms. Vu Hong Hai ( Hanoi ) shared: “This is my first time visiting Thung Nham Bird Garden. Sitting in a boat gliding along the lake, watching flocks of white egrets fly back to their nests at sunset, I was truly captivated.”

Many tourists enjoy capturing beautiful images as they witness flocks of wild birds soaring before their eyes.

Foreign tourists also enjoy taking photos to capture this beautiful moment.

A representative from the Thung Nham Eco-tourism Area Management Board stated that the area always prioritizes nature conservation.
To protect the birdlife, the tourist area only uses hand-rowed boats to minimize noise; at the same time, stop markers are placed to ensure a minimum distance of 2 meters between the boats carrying tourists and the bird flocks, to avoid frightening the birds. Visitors are also requested to maintain cleanliness and silence while visiting the bird sanctuary.
Furthermore, the bird sanctuary and special-use forest area are patrolled 24/7 to minimize any impact on the ecosystem of flora and fauna. The area is also protected by dams to store food for the birds and planted with trees, creating favorable conditions for the birds to gather and build nests.
According to representatives of the Thung Nham Eco-tourism Area Management Board, over the years, the area has actively coordinated with local authorities to educate people against hunting in order to protect the bird population when they fly out to forage. As a result, the bird species in Thung Nham Bird Garden have been almost completely preserved.
