After school hours, Do Phuc Truc (grade 5, Phuoc Loc Secondary School No. 1, Tuy Phuoc District, Binh Dinh) cycles dozens of kilometers to markets and coffee shops to sell lottery tickets and help his mother earn a living.

Ms. Do Thi Gai Nho (49 years old, residing in Vinh Thanh 1 village, Phuoc Loc commune, Tuy Phuoc district) - Truc's mother - already had a bunch of illnesses, especially hemolytic anemia, leading to many dangerous diseases such as heart disease, gallstones, and enlarged liver and spleen.
Nearly a year ago, Little Girl had another traffic accident, her spinal cord was crushed, she had to be treated for a long time and is now almost bedridden, unable to work.

Binh Dinh: 5th grade boy "orphaned" his father, sells lottery tickets to support his mother
Ms. Le Thi Sin (76 years old, Nho's biological mother) said that when she was about 4-5 years old, Nho had liver disease, but her family was poor and had many children, so they did not have money to take her to the hospital for treatment, so she mainly used herbal medicine to treat her illness at home.
"My husband and I have 7 children. We don't have enough food or clothes, so none of us can get a good education. Nho is the fourth daughter. She has been sickly since she was a child. When she grew up, Nho sold lottery tickets to make a living," Mrs. Sin sighed as she told her family story.
When Little Sister reached the age of marriage, no one paid attention to her. Her family was poor and she was constantly sick. Listening to people's advice to have a place to rely on when she was old, in 2012, Little Sister gave birth to a son, became a single mother, and named him Do Phuc Truc.
Since having a child, although life has become more difficult, Ms. Nho feels happier, more meaningful and worth living. A few months after giving birth, she left her child with her grandmother and continued to sell lottery tickets to earn a living, taking care of herself, her elderly mother and her son.
"Every day I sell lottery tickets and earn 80,000 - 100,000 VND. At night, I take on extra work knitting plastic. It's enough to make ends meet for a family of three," said Little Girl.

Life seemed peaceful, but disaster struck. Before the Lunar New Year, on her way to sell lottery tickets, Ms. Nho had a traffic accident, hitting her head on the road and crushing her spinal cord. Thanks to the people taking her to the hospital in time, she was able to survive, but her health was so weak that she could no longer work.
In the past, although she was sick, she had to go to the hospital every 2-3 months for blood transfusions to treat her hemolytic anemia, sometimes fainting in the hospital, Little Girl still tried to make a living. But now, she is almost bedridden, her mother is old and weak, and her son is still too young.
Loving his mother, after school, Do Phuc Truc followed his uncle to sell lottery tickets. Only in 5th grade, Truc's face looked much older than his friends of the same age.

Truc confided: "I often go to the markets to sell lottery tickets. Many people know my mother and I's situation so they buy them to support me. Some days I earn 80,000 VND, sometimes 100,000 VND. I just hope my mother lives long. I will try to study. I dream of becoming a doctor, to be a doctor for my mother for the rest of her life."
According to Mr. Phan Hoang Tuan, head of Vinh Thanh 1 village, Do Thi Gai Nho's family situation is one of the special cases in the locality, so it really needs everyone's help.
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Phu, Vice Chairman of Phuoc Loc Commune People's Committee shared: "Ms. Do Thi Gai Nho is both a poor household and a social protection beneficiary of the commune, receiving 540,000 VND per month in support. The locality also pays attention to this special situation whenever there is a support package for poor households, near-poor households and cases of sudden difficulties. However, what has been done is not enough to deal with this extremely difficult family situation."
