Mercedes-AMG has begun real-world testing for its all-new flagship all-electric SUV, marking a significant shift for the German high-performance brand in the electric vehicle era. According to CarBuzz, the vehicle is built on the specialized AMG.EA platform and is expected to officially launch around 2028.
Breakthrough shaft flux drive system
The most notable technical highlight of this electric SUV is its powertrain, which utilizes axial-flux motors supplied by YASA – Mercedes' strategic partner. Compared to traditional radial-flux motors, this technology allows for significantly higher power density while optimizing weight and dimensions.
The planned configuration includes three electric motors, providing flexible and precise torque distribution to each wheel. This is a core element that helps the SUV achieve an incredible power-to-weight ratio, maintaining the sporty driving DNA characteristic of the AMG brand.

Performance exceeds 1,300 horsepower.
Initial reports indicated that the base power output of this electric SUV would be at least 1,000 horsepower. However, based on specifications from the Concept GT XX, the top-of-the-line version could reach a maximum power output of 1,341 horsepower.
| Specifications | Expected value |
|---|---|
| Maximum power | 1,341 horsepower |
| Voltage architecture | 800 V |
| DC fast charging power | 330 kW |
| Chassis platform | AMG.EA |
| Number of motors | 3 axial flux motors |
Beyond its pure power, the vehicle's recharging capabilities are also impressive. Thanks to the AMG.EA platform's 800V high-voltage architecture, the car supports DC fast charging with power up to 330 kW, minimizing waiting times at high-power charging stations.
Segment positioning and brand name
Although Mercedes-AMG has not yet announced the official name, many predict that the model will continue the familiar GT naming convention. Sharing a core platform with the electric four-door coupe allows Mercedes to optimize high-performance technology for its SUV lineup.
This flagship electric SUV is expected to become a formidable competitor in the high-performance luxury electric vehicle segment thanks to its combination of superior power and the most advanced electrification technology platform from the German corporation.
