According to the Southern Hydrometeorological Station, the cold air will strengthen and weaken again from the East; from the night of December 2-3 and around December 7-8, it is likely to strengthen again.
Storm No. 15 Koto is moving westward in the central East Sea, then changing direction to the southwest and west southwest, then gradually weakening into a low pressure area moving towards the mainland of the South Central region.
The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said that as of 10:00 a.m. today (December 1), the eye of the storm was located in the northwest sea area of the central East Sea. The strongest wind near the eye of the storm was level 8 (62-74 km/h), gusting to level 10. The storm barely moved.
In the next 24 hours, the storm will move southwest at a speed of about 5km/h and weaken into a tropical depression. By 10am tomorrow morning (December 2), the center of the tropical depression will be in the northwest sea area of the central East Sea, about 170km east of the eastern coast of Gia Lai - Dak Lak province; intensity level 6, gust level 8.
It is forecasted that 12 hours later, the tropical depression will continue moving to the Southwest, at a speed of about 10km/h and weaken into a low pressure area over the Gia Lai - Khanh Hoa sea area.
Thus, storm No. 15 Koto will weaken into a tropical depression and then a low pressure area tonight until noon tomorrow, earlier than initially forecast.
However, due to the influence of storm/tropical depression circulation and some weather patterns, from around the night of December 2 to the end of December 3, the eastern region of the provinces from Quang Ngai to Dak Lak and Khanh Hoa will have moderate rain, heavy rain, and locally very heavy rain with common rainfall of 70-120mm, locally over 180mm.
From the night of December 3 to December 5, the area from Quang Tri to Da Nang city and the east of Quang Ngai province will have moderate rain, heavy rain, and locally very heavy rain with common rainfall of 50-150mm, locally over 250mm.
Warning of risk of heavy rain (>100mm/3h). Heavy rain can cause flooding in low-lying areas, urban and industrial areas; flash floods on small rivers and streams, landslides on steep slopes.
