Diligently sowing letters in the vast Tay Giang forest

In the middle of the Tay Giang mountain range (Da Nang city), where clouds cover the area all year round and the sound of gongs still echoes on the mountainside, there is a female teacher who has been persistently "sowing knowledge" for the past 14 years.

Teacher Briu Thi Net, teacher in charge of the Young Pioneers' Team at Atieng Primary School, is one of 80 teachers honored in the "Sharing with Teachers" program in 2025, organized by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Youth Union and the Ministry of Education and Training .

From childhood dream to the journey of "sowing letters"

Born in Song Kon commune, Da Nang city, Ms. Net grew up amidst the sound of streams and the wind of the forest. When she grew up, despite the local policy of recruiting ethnic minority students, she still chose to pursue her own dream. She took the entrance exam to major in music education with all her passion, with the desire to teach.

In 2011, after graduating, Ms. Net received a decision to work at Bhalêê Primary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities (now A Vuong Commune, Da Nang City).

From home to school is nearly 100 kilometers, the road is winding, the mountain slope is bumpy. The first lunch, when she stopped at a small restaurant near the school, looking at the children with dirty feet but eyes still shining with the desire to learn, she understood that this place, despite all the deprivation, was exactly where she needed to be.

"I still remember the feeling of being so moved that I was speechless. Talking to the students and introducing myself, I felt like I had found the right place to belong. I am also a child of an ethnic minority, so I understand their difficulties even more," she said, her voice filled with emotion.

At that time, everything was still difficult. Without a vehicle, she had to walk and wade through streams to four schools to teach music and participate in Team activities. There were days when it was stormy and the roads were muddy, but she still carried her guitar on her shoulder and walked for hours to make it to class.

Lighting the fire of love in the mountains and forests

After three years of teaching, Ms. Net was trusted by the school board and colleagues to be assigned the task of Team Leader.

The classrooms were simple and lacked teaching equipment. A single drum set had to be moved between four schools, and every time there was a flag salute or an activity, she had to rush to carry it.

But what worries her most is not the facilities, but the timid, hesitant eyes of the students in the highlands. Most of them are Co Tu, do not speak Vietnamese fluently, and do not communicate much, so studying is extremely difficult.

"The children are not unintelligent, they just have little contact with the outside world. Mandarin is not their mother tongue, so every word and sentence is a difficult journey. Some children understand the lesson and can do it, but they cannot speak it or express what they think," Ms. Net said.

In addition to teaching, Ms. Net also works hard to "light a fire" in her students through each school movement activity. For her, those are precious moments to be close to, listen to and understand her students.

One of the movements that she is most proud of is "Friends Progressing Together", which is launched at the beginning of each school year. Thanks to this activity, students learn to share, study and grow together.

Now, some of her students have become university students, some have followed in her footsteps and become teachers. Aviet Thi Rac, one of Ms. Net's former students, still remembers clearly the time she taught her.

"She always encouraged me to try my best in my studies. She often said that no matter how difficult the circumstances were, studying still had to be a priority. Those teachings helped me to constantly strive and persevere on my learning path," Rac shared.

Pioneering, dynamic teachers

According to Ms. Huynh Thi My Trang - Vice Principal of Atieng Primary School, Ms. Briu Thi Net is a pioneering, dynamic and creative teacher in teaching as well as in the school's Team activities.

"In her role as Team Leader, Ms. Net has made many innovations and creativity in organizing activities, competitions and children's movements. Under her guidance, the Atieng Primary School Team represented the old Tay Giang district to participate and won many high prizes in competitions for ethnic minority students and movements at the district and provincial levels," said Ms. Trang.
