Fresh jackfruit officially exported to China

This is the content of the Protocol on exporting fresh jackfruit from Vietnam to China recently signed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment and the General Administration of Customs of China.

To date, Vietnam has officially exported 16 types of fruits and vegetables to China, including 11 items with which the two sides have signed an export protocol, including watermelon, mangosteen, black jelly, durian, frozen durian, fresh coconut, fresh banana, sweet potato, chili, passion fruit and jackfruit. In the first 10 months of this year, Vietnam's fruit and vegetable exports to China reached more than 4.5 billion USD, an increase of more than 10% over the same period last year.

Representatives of both sides said that the signing of the Fresh Jackfruit Protocol this time is expected to create new momentum for the development of agricultural trade between the two countries, as this is the 5th Protocol on agricultural product exports signed in 2025, after chili, passion fruit, rice bran and raw bird's nest.

Mr. Huynh Tan Dat, Director of the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection, said that the signing of the Protocol shows that Vietnam's agricultural products increasingly meet the quality and food safety requirements of importing countries, of which the Chinese market is a potential market. He believes that by meeting the requirements of this market, Vietnam's agricultural products can meet the requirements of all other markets.

However, Mr. Dat also noted that the Chinese market is becoming increasingly demanding, with increasingly strict requirements on food safety and origin, forcing the Vietnamese agricultural sector to seriously implement measures to improve product quality to continue to dominate the market.

“High quality requirements are also one of the important requirements for management agencies and localities to raise farmers' awareness right from the production stage. Firstly, it is necessary to strictly manage input materials and apply good agricultural practices, such as GAP or Vietgap for key products. Secondly, it is necessary to strengthen the food safety inspection and supervision system during the production, preliminary processing, and processing stages before exporting products. Thirdly, it is necessary to build chains linking businesses with local authorities and farmers to ensure that the production chain meets each stage and each traceability chain, ensuring that when there are risks, the authorities have a way to identify and propose appropriate solutions to handle risks. On that basis, importing countries accept agricultural products that ensure quality requirements, quarantine requirements, food safety requirements, and traceability,” Mr. Dat noted.

With the signing of the Protocol on fresh jackfruit export, the prospect of agricultural trade cooperation between the two countries is forecast to continue to expand, towards other potential products such as coconut, grapefruit and other fruits in the coming time.
