The "sacred" road
In April, the 133.1-meter-long bridge over the Dinh River, consisting of five simple spans of 24.54 meters each, was only partially completed as part of the DT719 bypass and bridge construction project. “In recent days, the price of fuel has increased and is scarce, so there isn’t enough fuel for the machinery to operate at full capacity, but we are still striving to meet the set deadline. It’s the same on the other side,” said a construction engineer, pointing into the distance. We took a detour and returned to the correct route to connect with the bridge over the Dinh River, where we saw a beautiful view. A section of the road was taking shape, straight and like a giant silk ribbon draped across the lush green of the planted forest. It also crossed the 26-kilometer-long Dinh River 3 - Nui Dat irrigation canal (a reservoir in Tan Hai commune), which is currently under construction.
With waterways passing through, the surrounding areas can naturally be used to cultivate many other crops, not just forests as is currently the case. Therefore, the road from the investment project to build the DT719 bypass and bridge over the Dinh River, which is gradually taking shape through Ham Tan commune, La Gi ward, and Phuoc Hoi ward, is considered a "miraculous" road. This is most evident in La Gi ward, where the entire 6.82 km road has a roadbed width of 15-27 m, depending on the section, with La Gi alone accounting for 6 km. Notably, this section of road not only opens up a large amount of land, clearly visible for commerce, services, and tourism, but also passes through three Tan Binh industrial clusters with a total area of 126 hectares. Of these, Tan Binh 1 already has infrastructure investors, while Tan Binh II and Tan Binh III do not. All of this activates and enhances the economic advantages of the ward, or in other words, expands the space for development.
According to the contract, the project for the DT719 bypass and the bridge over the Dinh River is expected to be completed on June 15, 2027. That means in just over a year, these changes, which seemed like a distant prospect, are now very close to becoming a reality.
In the Decision issued by the Provincial People's Committee at the end of March 2026, which announced the list of Type II and Type III urban areas and wards meeting the prescribed level of urban development for administrative units in Type II and Type III urban areas in Lam Dong province, La Gi urban area, including La Gi ward, Phuoc Hoi ward, and Tan Hai commune, was classified as a Type II urban area. From this, La Gi ward has more space and conditions to expand its urban area over time.

Center of trade and services
The calculations surrounding the proposal to expand the area of the Southeast Coastal Economic Zone of the province from 27,000 hectares to 55,000 hectares between the Department of Construction and the Provincial Industrial Parks Management Board are relevant and affirm the position of La Gi ward. According to the analysis of the Provincial Industrial Parks Management Board, while the proposed plan from the Department of Construction considers the marine spatial factor, linked to the orientation of marine economic development, seaports, and coastal activities, the organization of development space on land, with the proposed boundary only encompassing a part of La Gi ward… From this, the unit concludes that this leads to the fragmentation of urban space, hindering the synchronized development orientation of urban planning, technical infrastructure, social infrastructure, trade, services, and long-term development management. Meanwhile, La Gi and Phuoc Hoi are urban areas, playing a key role as the main service and trade center of the economic zone. Therefore, not including the entire La Gi ward in the study scope would reduce the coherence in the spatial organization of the economic zone's development.
If the proposed plan for the Southeast Coastal Economic Zone includes the entire La Gi ward, Phuoc Hoi ward, Tan Hai commune, Son My commune, and Ham Tan commune within the research area, then there will also be a convenient transportation connection with National Highway 1A, National Highway 55, the Tan Minh - Son My route, and the Tan Xuan - Tan Thang route (DT719) connecting to Ho Chi Minh City. This will ensure the unity of the urban space, facilitate management, development orientation, and the organization of integrated planning between urban areas, services, industry, and port infrastructure.

This means that, alongside the remarkable development of modern industrial zones and seaports in Son My commune, La Gi, along with Phuoc Hoi, will become a central urban area for the development of trade, services, and tourism, serving the southeastern coastal economic zone of the province and generating significant revenue in the future.
In fact, the economic structure of La Gi ward has strengths in industry, agriculture, and trade, services, and tourism. The socio-economic development results of the first four months of the year showed good growth in all sectors, such as: export turnover of 28,625 USD, reaching 63.26% of the annual plan; welcoming approximately 40,000 tourists, including over 17,000 overnight visitors; seafood production reaching 8,000 tons; nearly 200 new businesses and households established, mainly in trade and services, bringing the total to 370 businesses and 3,600 households…
Beyond simply developing the socio-economic aspects to reach a higher level, the people of La Gi are also contributing to overall development in many ways. For example, to ensure the early commencement of the DT719 bypass road and the bridge over the Dinh River, 52 households have handed over their land in advance, with compensation to be paid later…
When La Gi ward was included in the province's plan to be part of the Southeast Coastal Economic Zone, it created favorable conditions for its development. The government and residents will benefit from many economic zone policies, such as infrastructure investment, increased job opportunities, development of trade and services, attraction of non-budgetary investment, and urban beautification.
