Open barrier to move across the spillway, driver was swept away by flood

The tractor trailer was pushed down the abyss by the flood when it passed over the spillway.

At about 12 noon on November 17, the tractor trailer with license plate 75H-007.xx went from La Lay international border gate to the interior of Quang Tri province on National Highway 15D.

When arriving at the A Rong Tren spillway at km1 of National Highway 15D, the driver arbitrarily opened the barrier and moved the vehicle across the spillway.

Halfway through the spillway, the strong current caused the front of the car to drift toward the abyss. The driver quickly got out of the cabin and went to the side of the car to wait for rescue.

While the rescue forces were organizing, the flood was so strong that the car overturned and the driver was swept away.

Mr. Pham Xuan Khanh, Secretary of the Party Committee of La Lay commune (Quang Tri province) said that the authorities are trying to find the driver who was swept away by floodwaters.

On the same day, according to the Civil Defense Command of Quang Tri province, in the past 12 hours, Quang Tri has had heavy rain.

The whole province has 53 flooded and isolated points on national highways, provincial roads...

At block 3A, Khe Sanh commune, a house collapsed due to a landslide. Ms. Thai Thi Nga, Chairman of the Commune People's Committee, said that rescue forces are urgently evacuating people and property from the landslide area.

In Dakrong commune, the commune People's Committee headquarters, which is located at a high position and rarely flooded, is now flooded. In addition, the Ho Chi Minh Highway West branch passing through Pa Hy village has a landslide, and National Highway 9 passing through Lang Cat village has also collapsed.

Quang Tri Province Border Guard has coordinated with other forces to establish 28 checkpoints at flooded areas, to propagate and guide people to ensure safety.

Along with that, localities have evacuated 217 households, with 813 people in Huong Phung and Ba Long communes to safety.
